Credit Card Fees
Anyone know of a CC that does not charge a ~2-3% foreign transaction fee?

Capitol One credit card does not charge an international transaction fee. We have used it for about 4 years with no problems.
Just be sure to advise them when you are out of the county or they may deny the transaction.

Agree with karenintx, Capital One is very sensitive to fraud so be sure to call each time you head South.

When this topic came up earlier this year I followed the advise and applied for a Capitol One card-
and was denied. Had to laugh because I've never been denied before and I used to fill up my trash can with Capitol One personal invitations. Said they
didn't like the way our home mortgage looked on paper(adjustable).
The loan is paid off now and maybe I'll reapply for a card again someday if I find that I use a credit card often enough for purchases when living in
Mexico.

I find this interesting. Capital One does not enjoy a very good reputation among card issuers. A particular problem has been arbitrary interest rate
hikes. That said, with new Federal regulations on credit, virtually all card issuers are currently jacking up rates and lowering limits ahead of the
Fed regs taking effect.

Yeah, my Citibank APR on purchases is going up to 17.99% on 29 December and the increase is retroactive; i.e., new and existing balance.
Slimebuckets.
3% foreign transaction fee.
Here's an hour long Frontline show about "The Card Game".

We spend about 7 months a year in Cabo. We perfer to use the c/c and save our pesos/cash for places that do not accept c/c. Before retiring in Oct.
2008 the hubby used his c/c in his international business travels all the time with no problems.
I have not been aware of the interest rate changes, maybe because we pay balance in full each month...zero % interest.
After receiving our card several years ago, I called C/O to advise them of our travel habits. The phone agent made the notation to our account...I
then asked to be transfered to their "Fraud Protection Department". Advised them of our travel habits. I was told by the "Fraud Dept." agent that by
going straight to them it makes their job easier to monitor our charges and she wished more people would do the same. We do not have to call C/O
each time we leave the USA unless we are going to a country that we have never traveled. So far so good!
