Small boat ramps
Great Board here.
Have two questions.
San Felipe to 12 miles south of Puertecitos: can someone supply me with a list of boat ramps? I have a 14ft'er. My Ram truck does not do well in the
sand, so either a good rocky surface or concrete be best.
Second Q: Any recommended fishing spots within this area? Will be staying bout a mile off shore.

The San Felipe harbor, about 3 mi. so. of
SF, has a free public ramp concrete, fairly
steep, don't think there is much going south
from there, other than beach launch

A good investment is Zacks book "Trailer boating Baja", It's a great resource. Search the older posts and you can get the info to order it.

From my years in the area and the two books on the subject (pictured below) there are no ramps between San Felipe and Puertecitos... There is an
exteme tide change (20 feet) which cause the water to go out a half mile in places do to the shallow seabed, north of Puertecitos. This means itis
best to time your launches during high tide!
There was a ramp at Bahia Santa Maria (km. 31 today) in the 1970's, but after the bay changed shape (sand) in 1978, it became useless.
4WD rigs launch at high tide over the steep sand beach for light weight water craft.
At Alfonsina's (Bahia San Luis Gonzaga) the solid clay launch area on the west side of the runway is where boats are easily launched at high tide,
into the back-bay.

I know that at Puertecitos there's a gate entrance fee. Any good Nomad know the fees for ramp / camping / general entrance?
I dont mind paying fees...I do mind paying over charged fees.

Get Zack's book... Guests of the campground or motel at Puertecitos may have free use of their ramp... others pay $15 (per what I remember reading).
No pay at Alfonsina's, it is open lagoon shore spot to launch small/ shallow draft boats... on the west side of the runway, near the north end.

Zack's trailer-boating guide to Baja is the best..hands down. Any Baja fisherman would welcome it in his library.

Since most beaches offer a descending slope into the water, I often park above the soft sand and drag my 14 footer to the water line.
A 100' rope hooked to the truck will pull the boat back up the beach to an area of better traction for loading.
4 or 5 - 6' lengths of 2" schedule 40 under the boat can also help.

Papa Fernandez just north of Gonzaga Bay has a concrete "ramp". The lower the tide, the bumpier the ride. You can leave your boat near the ramp at
night and camp over the hill on the beach. Nice people, reasonable fees, and the neighbors in the houses nearby are great too. "The Baja Catch" by
Gene Kira and Neil Kelly is another good resource for where/what to fish in any of the areas you are thinking about. Troll slowly TIGHTto shore from
Fernandez to Campo Bufeo and you'll get something. Isla San Luis is a bit farther off shore than you mentioned but good fishing if the nets are not
around. (realizing that Gonzaga may be beyond your 12 mile limit...but it's worth it for the fishing.)

check with management? Thanks.

2" schedule 40 = 2" PVC electrical conduit usually grey in color, available at most hardware stores, Home Depot, etc.
Don't need to go to an electrical supply house. Cut it with a hack saw or...(my preferred method) a SawzAll.

"Over the hill" at Papa Fernandez' is the beach that faces east, outside the bay, on Punta Willard. There is a rope across the road, past the cantina
(see John Wayne's photo with Papa inside) to keep it 'secure'. I will add a Google image...

sorry about that chief! as david k mentioned, there is a rope across road to get into the main camp at fernandez. the boat ramp/bay will be to the
right but if you drive straight and up and over the little hill you'll hit the beach. the owners house is to the left before the hill near the rope
and you can check in with them as the dogs bark at you or come back later after finding your camp spot. i think its five bucks a day per car for
camping and launch... no hot showers that I know of and "primitive" facilities. we camp as far to the left as you can go once you hit the beach.
alfonsinas has showers but is a ten minute drive. I am not sure what the green "isla san luis" means in the photo but the actual isla san luis is a
few miles north of fernandez and a bit further off shore than you mention...though good fishing if you know where to drop. tight to shore anywhere
around there is the best bet and a good chance for corvina to the southeast from fernandez.

yah, you will find place name errors on many maps... The true Isla San Luis is a few miles north and has a volcano crater partly in the water... It is
the biggest of the Enchanted Islands chain.
The island in the Google image is Isla San Luis Gonzaga (being in Bahia San Luis Gonzaga). However, some boating maps and books will call is 'Willard
Island' in 'Willard Bay'.

Goes to show you....I've been going to Baja for 8 years now...and had no idea of the Fernandez camp offered!
Now I remember that rope! Just pulled in and out there a few years back.
Will be doing all ramps noted here in this post...and will report on em in January. Thanks 2 all for the great data.

Got this from Moon.com:
If you have your own small boat, you can launch at ramps at the motel El
Cortez (east of the Palmas on Av. Mar de Cortés), Ruben’s RV Trailer Park
(Av. Golfo de California 703). All charge fees
of around US$4 per launch.
Can anyone give me some details about these locations. IE..concrete ramp-someone with a service to set in...ect. Thanks.
