Isla Cerralvo renamed!

They have renamed Cerralvo Island, off La Paz. It's now Jacques Cousteau Island.

I'm going to keep using the old name 'cause I'm just an old fart.

I think you're on to something, Don. I'll vote for Gilligan's Island, I'm sure the local pangas will be offering three hour tours.

What a shame!!!! Why can't the Cousteau family just leave the Sea of Cortez alone!! It just irks me to the core. As it seems they have renamed othger Islands in Figi and all over the world after themseleves. They are just to self indulgent to just let it be. You just KNOW some Mexican officials got a pay off. Too Bad. C

I am still going to call it Cerralvo Island just as it will always be Muertos Bay to me, not that made up name by developers, Bay of Dreams. Whats next, Hawaii being called Don Ho Island? Catalina being called Buffalo Island?

I'll tell you whats next!!!!!....La Paz will be renamed LA JOLLA and Ensenada will be called 1000 Oaks..... And back to the a-hole Cousteau Society..... they will end up building an escape resort on the South end of Isala Cerralvo so that a bunch of rich pasty French Fags can come an argue back and forth about the bad quality Mexlcan food they were just served and they just won't like the smell of the marine air either..... Lets see the Cousteau Society get rid of the seiners out of the protected areas and Mex. Marine Parks and lets see them go after the corupt Mexican fishing regulators. Don't hold your breath!!! From Wikipedia:

Quote:
There is growing resistance to the name change among the citizens of the nearby coast, in the state of Baja California Sur, who were not consulted; they insist on keeping the name "Isla Cerralvo". Senator Francisco Javier Obregón Espinoza has introduced a resolution in the Mexican Congress requesting the name change be reversed.[2] Leading Mexican intellectuals such as Miguel León-Portilla (a former UNESCO director) have also voiced opposition to the name change.

If you follow this story you will find that the PR and announcements are rife with misinfo and confusion, who renamed it? By whose declaration? For what purpose? Who paid who? Why? It has been suggested that the misinfo is part of the huge scam/theft, a plan to first confuse, make the opponents weary and then to rename it again, perhaps soon, in order to claim the mineral and land resources etc... It's quite sad state of affairs and certainly not something to be taken lightly. It's quite unfortunate.

Close, but, that's the island formerly known as Coronado.

I don't yet know what the new name of Carmen is or will be.

We spent a considerable amount of time in and around and on Isla Del Carmen in the mid 70's. The Salinas family owned it then, and it is my understanding they still do. We made friends with the caretakers and fisherman familys there at that time. We were not allowed, and told not to walk around after dark, because we might get run over by an unlit airplane attempting to land. My oh, My oh, My..... Beautiful spot!!! ++C++;);)

They should keep the name Isla Cerralvo, and give the name Cousteau to a reserve section or area surronding the island the honorary title.

How about renaming a bahia in Baja Sur from Bahia de Los Muertos to Bahia de Los Suenos, just a sales pitch.
