No Home Depot in La Paz
Why no Costco or Home Depot in La Paz?
La Paz has a population of over 210,000 and Cabo has a population around 56,000. Doesn't make sense to me as to why La Paz doesn't have a Home Depot
or Costco. La Paz has a Sam's Club and Walmart, but that didn't happen until December of 2008.
I read recently that La Paz has the highest per capita income in all of Mexico.

The geometrical shape of the ovens is not conducive to great pizzas less than 60".

Pizzas, you're talking Costco, right? But, where is the Home Depot in La Paz?

I hope that it's better than the one they opened up in Cabo. That's the most pathetic excuse for a store I've seen, and absolutely the worst service
of any HD, which are notorious for poor service.

I was in La Paz in September 2009 and my place is 2 miles from Sam's Club. I don't remember seeing any significant building going on in that vicinity
at that time. Amazing!
Nomads, Thanks for the info.

Hey Mitchman! Haven't you been paying attention? You are suppose to go to the Cosco in San Diego.

I believe it opened Dec 3rd. It's right across from Sams Club and Wally mart.
Jim and Gloria at La Paz storage, close to the LaPaz airport, mentioned a Costco as well but I have not seen Costco in LaPaz yet. RT

group from outside, trained shock troops as it were that went from site to site building Walmarts.
They came to town, worked with speed and precision unknown in the region, raised the center in record time and went away to the next project. It was
open in time for the Christmas season, a major play for the success of the new store and an achievement incomprehensible to the locals watching the
process.
How many jobs went to locals during that construction? Don't know, but the core crew were outsiders who came in, did their project, and took their
jobs with them when they left...

This shows again that "money talks".
How else, and "who" else could bypass the local builders.

That crack team of Walmart builders appears to be working a large lot near the northern entrance to Guaymas. At least that's the latest rumors.
Supposedly a Sams Club, too.
We were just up at two Walmarts in Hermosillo yesterday. What confounds us is how they consistently have the best produce of any of the local
markets/vege vendors/tianguis, etc. Their stuff is stunning.
More from our Hermosillo shopping spree.........Costco now carrying that excellent Jose ? brand of whole beans with the vanilla and nut flavoring.
Look for it at yours. Costco starting to carry more whole beans.
But they appear to have dropped the Smart Balance tubs of spread.
HD just pathetic when it come to irrigation devices/parts, etc. Basically all this one has is lawn watering devices like rainbirds and other
oscillating sprinkers. NO SOAKER HOSES, NO BATTERY OP HOSE TIMERS, NO DRIP STUFF. Incredible!!!
But Cheap Chinese Xmas Junk up the yin-yang...............

Walmart in La Paz has good supply of produce, but, funny thing, often it always runs out of some key items frequently. You know how frustrating it is
to have everything you need except cilantro or garlic or jalapenos or limes or green onions? Because of that I returned to my previous reliable
supermarket for produce and cheese and tortillas - CCC at the corner of Abasolo and Colima, behind the Bancomer.
I still shop mostly at Walmart for eveything else, and I do mean everything else. When I was furnishing my house, I bought queen sized mattresses,
all kitchen furnishings, living room carpet, all my medications (and then some), all my liquor (1 liter Jose Cuervo Gold plus 1/2 liter bottle for a
total of $8 USD), plastic trash bags, pillows, etc., etc., etc.
When Walmart opened last year, I thought that I had died and gone to heaven.
Side point, I like both Loreto and La Paz, but I like Loreto better. However, Loreto lacks many accomodations...no big stores, few government offices
and fewer choices for services. I still don't know where the locals buy meat and cheese and get any reasonable variety of food. The so called main
store in town has about 12 lbs of meat , a few chickens, and one or two types of cheese and even fewer cold cuts. If you need professional services
like an accountant or lawyer, half the time they are out of town to La Paz getting stuff done. Also, they know they are the only game in town and
they act like it. After great consideration and much angst, I opted for a place in La Paz instead of Loreto and I am glad that I did (it's always
been too expensive to fly to Loreto, and it's getting worse). However, the minute the situation reliably changes in Loreto, I am going to get a
casita there for sure.

People have to remember that due to Mexican law, foreign companies cannot just come in and open their stores. Mexican corporations have a control over
just about any company that gringos may identify with. Costco in Mexico is majority owned by the Comercial Mexicano folks, who, incidently was
virtually bankrupt last year. Walmart is allegedly a 50-50 deal with Mexico's Cifra company, but what what I understand, there cannot be 50-50, but
rather there must be a majority of Mexican ownership. Smart and Final is majority owned by Calimax. The list goes on. My point is that it is primarily
Mexican business owners who make the decision as to where to build and open stores.

Funny thing is that I only go to Home Depot to scope out the females. Is there anything hotter than a babe wearing a toolbelt?
