It's All Relative ? Eye (Ear) of the Beholder ?

Having worked for a number of years with quite a few REAL Cubans (All having come from Cuba), they were unanimous in their disdain for the way Mexicans spoke Spanish.

Of course, they were generally in disdain of Mexico for the most part.

My girlfriend from Peru didn't much care for Mexicans either.

Guess which country the Cubans are using to illegally enter the US!

my wife from Peru felt the same way about the culture and language before she met up with my guero nalga....

now she just has a hard time with the "rough" spanglish that is encountered in these parts.....

It's like that all through Latin America, Panamanians hate Ticos and Columbians, Nicaraguans hate Ticos, Ticos hate Nicaraguans, Mexicans don't like Guatamalans, Columbians don't like Venezuelans etc. etc.

National Brotherhood Week

Oh, the poor folks hate the rich folks
And the rich folks hate the poor folks
All of my folks hate all of your folks
It's American as apple pie

But during National Brotherhood Week
National Brotherhood Week
New Yorkers love the Puerto Ricans
'Cause it's very chic
Step up and shake the hand
Of someone you can't stand
You can tolerate him if you try

Oh, the Protestants hate the Catholics
And the Catholics hate the Protestants
And the Hindus hate the Moslems
And everybody hates the Jews

But during National Brotherhood Week
National Brotherhood Week
It's National Everyone-Smile-At-
One-Another-hood Week
Be nice to people who
Are inferior to you
It's only for a week, so have no fear
Be grateful that it doesn't last all year!

Central Americans almost universally don't think much of Mexicans.

My wife (native Spanish speaker) and I were in a small store in the Dominican Republic. At checkout my wife asked for a bolsa. The checkout gal snickered and explained that in the DR bolsa means scrotum. I forget their word for bag. We still joke about it whenever we use the word bolsa.
