the Orcas return. Rare sightings off the Cornoado Islands

I know the water is cold right now- but is it really cold enough for the Orcas (killer whales) to stick around?

It's all about food. They could care less about the water temp. They are found in a lot of places.

I didnt realize they were so widespread. The continental shelf drops off on the other side of the Coronados- so maybe the food is plentiful and the sea lions slow right now.

It would be nice if they stuck around and put a dent in the sea lion population.

Sadly, they'll be around to pounce on Grey Whale calves in a few months.

They came to look at the Lifeguard Towers in Playas de Rosarito.

Just a question, how far out are they in the Descanso Bay.. any guess if I could see them from El Pescador... have heard you could see them at La Mision.. but, have never seen these guys, or the ones that apparently come next..

Would like to... have a spotting scope, but it only 60X at max.. may not reach

Thanks in advance for the information:):)

Yeah. They are circling the islands waiting for the lifeguard towers to become floating bases for sea lions and flying rats... complete with all day mariachi music.

I see whales from my backyard all the time in La Mision. Never one that looks even close to an orca. I'll keep my eyes open this weekend.
