Condition of route between Valle Trinidad and Hwy 1?
This is the route that goes from the Ensenada-San Felipe hwy to just south of San Vicente on Hwy 1. It goes past "San Jose Vineyard" and Rancho San
Isidoro.
On the 2005 AAA map, this road shows to be improved dirt. What is the condition of this route? Hopefully not as bad as the Puertecitos-Chapala route.
Are there locked gates that prevent use?
Is it a "safe" route or does it go through El Teo's personal marijuana field and body dumping grounds? 
I'm considering using this route as an alternative (to the ferry or the SF-Gonzaga route) for trips south into Baja from northern Sonora.

It is a decent dirt road. Two wheel drive is OK. Not sure I would take a low profile car on it as there are a couple of places with some rocks, SUV
and trucks no problem. I would not pull a long trailer on it. It is much better than the Gonzaga road. There is usually one army checkpoint. Road is
used in the Baja 500 and 1000 races. Best way to get on it at Trinidad is to take the turn off from hwy 3 at the gas station to the end and turn right
to the end and turn left. Follow this to the power transformer station and turn right onto the dirt road just before the station. Follow it straight,
no turns. After a few miles you'll come to a large open area where the race course comes in from the left along with the power lines. Stay on the road
to hwy 1 near KM102/103. It's 28 miles from the open area to hwy 1.

SCORE has been racing that road the last few years for the 500 and the 1000. It is really beat up and unless SCORE graded after November's 1000 my
guess is that it remains beat up.

So, an F350 with a Lance on it would not be a good idea?
Hell, it couldnt be worse than the La Vibora grade...............

Hook, I watched you climb the La Vibora grade... so this road to San Vicente should be a cake walk for you! 
The one steep 4WD grade is called 'La Vibora' (The Rattlesnake).
Hook is doing very well with that big camper on a hairpin turn, in the distance!
Seriously, I drove it once in 2000, the other direction (to Trinidad from San Vicente)... and it was a well maitained (by Baja standards) graded road.
It did have a long, steep grade, but the road bed was smooth (back then).

Well I don't know, if your driving a Ford you may not want to take this route.
