Cabo Pulmo Trouble?

Had a nice afternoon on the beach at Cabo Pulmo, south of Los Barilles. On the way back, on the hill just north of town, ran into 30 or more guys on foot at the top of the pass with clubs, bats, machetes, molotov c-cktails, and at least one real-looking pistol. Some of them were headed in a line down toward the north end of town. Seemed friendly enough towards us, but it definitely got our attention. Looked like a road block as we were approaching the top, but no one tried to stop us.

Met lots of policemen headed that way as we went back to Los Barilles.

Anyone know that it might have meant? We had noticed on our way in that there were some serious looking guys camped in tents at the north end of town. Seemed strange at the time, but I don't really know if it's connected.

Being so close to Cabo one can only imagine the possibilities of what you saw, but I would use some caution for a while. Seems a very likely potential new "hotspot" for the bad guys.

Sounds more like a dispute that has boiled over. Land...labor...who knows.
The other bad guys quit using clubs a long time ago although the molotov would get my attention. These guys are definitly peeed off at somebody.
Steer clear, danl, till you know what's up.

Didn't ESL (Choppy) have a beef with the Castros on Cabo Pulmo land? Sometime ago but might be related.

There has been a serious land/grab dispute at Cabo Pulmo for some time now with dustups that followed just what the man saw. I don't know the exact land (it's a strip right on the beach east of town I believe) or the players but I'll try to find out and give you a report. More than once there have been professional armed land squatters hired to protect land rights assertions and when the OTHER OWNERS or THE POLICE SHOW UP it would sure be worth some Utube footage. Been some gunplay too.

Well I wasn't really too worried for my safety as they smiled and waved at us, but it really made us all very curious. I wanted to stop and ask them what it was about, but my family was not in favor of that :-) My 15 year old and his 22 year old brother were in the bed of the pickup. They just smiled and waved at the guys.

These guys didn't really look like thugs, but you would wonder how you could get so many guys together in such a remote place. Also, I couldn't think of any good reason for them to be there, with everyone carrying some type of weapon. And the guys camped down near the beach definitely seemed out of place.

We talked with a local in a car on the way out and she assured us the situation was not a threat to tourists, although I couldn't get from her what was actually going on.

I'm in an RV at Los Barilles, which seems like a good distance, so I really have no worries. Just very curious. Loving my first trip to a non-resort Mexico. Honestly, the wind here is bothering me more than what we saw at Cabo Pulmo. Wish the weather was warmer! Although it's much better than where I came from!

So don't start calling me names! I registered so I could post this and try to satisfy my curiosity about what I saw :-) No evil intent! Promise! I love you all! And Baja! Peace!

Forgive the grumps here, they enjoy creating chaos at times, you'll quickly learn which ones for yourself. Ignore them and continue posting any updates. Caution seems to be a way of life anywhere now-a-days.

Welcome to BajaNomad. danl, and thanks for the info.
Don't let Mixicorn be your memory of this place. He's an experiment that Doug agreed to.
Corny lives in a mental ward in the V.A... and is allowed to spew nonsense as a method of understanding for his therapists to have something to work with.
Normally here, he's a pretty good guy but, it just happens that he makes no sense and should be ignored sometimes.
This may be one of those times.

Tell us about the "Not very nice" stuff. We all want to know.
You're starting to get into the attack zone and I want to prepare myself.
Don't disappear on this issue, please. I deserve to know of what you speak. Since you brought it here, we all do.
Lets hear it.

Cant remember it all it from one of her posts back in June or July, just Google it like I did. It has comments about where you live in PB and other things that appear to be complete BS. She goes back and forth with this person she refers to as Fulano and the two pussys take pot shots at you personally and other expats living in PB.
No offense I'm on your side buddy- Dont get your feathers all ruffled up! I'm standing up for you!
The thought of putting all that BS on the internet seems like a Chicken ship personal attack.

Thats all check it out.

I do. All of it. Why not? She gave me the unusual opportunity to accept what she said and laugh at it simultaneously. For someone of her varied credibility here, that's something.

As far as Fulano is concerned...if you don't know who she is here, and there, you have some homework to do.
Start now.
