Eagles Hunting Mountain Goats

Spectacular National Geographic you-tube video of golden eagles picking goats off mountains. Warning- pretty brutal.
Click on this link.

Can anyone identify the area this was filmed in? Possibly Mexico's Copper canyon?

I vote for Spain. Somone who knows says the 'goats' are Iberian Ibex found in Spain. Plus the language does have that marbles in the mouth sound you hear in Spain. Plus the guy who posted the vid is from Barcelona. Plus some speculate that the bird is actually a captive trained bird and it is noted that it flys right toward the camera in a couple of shots as though it was landing?

Awesome video for sure.

I buy the trained bird theory. The shot of the bird flying to the camera and it making the kill are off the chart lucky shots to happen in the same shoot. Neat video though.

The video doesn't show the birds legs/talons so I can't tell if it is a captive. Most Falconers use leather jesses on their birds legs. From all the angles and close-ups it looks like a man and his bird working with cameras over a few days time. I don't doubt the content although they usually prefer lighter prey they can lift up to their nests- not glide down to the ground below with.

I recall seeing a similar video quite a few years ago. Can't remember if it's the same one, but vaguely recall it being a national geographic shoot. And that one was in the Sierra Nevada outside of Granada, Spain. I distinctly remember the eagle just knocking a very large ram of the cliff and then went after it at the bottom of the ravine. Couldn't lift it though, and fed on the spot.

I think my photographic memory ran out of film

there is a vid on you tube now where they attached pr. mini cams on a golden eagle that is trained.
it is incredible to watch.
they also attached the system to other birds.
cam weighs 28 oz and is wide angle.

Very cool. Most Falconers are lucky to get a tracking transmitter attached to their birds- let alone a camera. These are some big strong birds for sure.

I'm glad there are so many in Baja- it's always awesome to see them riding thermals and hunting from high-above...
