Great Idea!

As restaurants frequently change, move, have different cooks it makes the quality vary from trip to trip. It is always a pleasant surprise to have a great meal... and we are surprised more often than not in Baja!

Here's a few out-of-the-way and popular Baja surprises!:

El Taco de Huitzilopochtli, in Ensenada. Open on weekends only. Avenida de las Rosas 242 Tel. (6) 174-23-81. It is located in the far north-east corner of town. David Eidell claimed this was the finest restaurant in all of Mexico! Ate there a couple times... it was interesting!

=================================================

Alfonsina's (Gonzaga Bay)... That's Antonio and Marta who run the place, between Elizabeth and I.

=====================================================

Chelo's at Colonia Delicias, Km. 35 south of San Felipe. A front patio area has been added.

=================================================

Marina's is just a couple blocks west of Chelo's, in Delicias.

====================================================

Jardines Baja, San Quintin at their new location.

===================================================

El Patron, Mulege (you can't get any closer to the water than this beach restaurant... your feet could get wet at high tide!)

===============================================

McLuLu's in Loreto for great tacos!

=================================================

Playa Buenaventura, Bahia Concepcion (the restaurant south of the hotel)... Great place, friendly people!

====================================================

Ricardo's Rice and Beans, San Ignacio

====================================================

Mama Espinoza's, El Rosario

================================================

'Baja's Best (B & B) Restaurant, El Rosario

=================================================

China's Taco Stand (say 'chee-nah'), next door to Lizeth's market, Bahia de los Angeles

================================================

Ah ha... this is not an error! TACOS MISION in El Rosario is also Hugo Lopez' art gallery!

==========================================

There is more...

I don't have a photo but...
I was fishing last week in one of those little towns I love. Anyway, the only "reatuarant" in town was a hot dog cart in a guys front yard.
I go over there after a long day of fishing. Starving for a hot dog.
Not open yet. So I'm standing there and the wife comes out and tells me. The grill is cold.
The husband has just gotten in his truck to get supplies. He gets out and tells the wife to go cook me some hot dogs on the stove in the house.
Pretty soon my dogs are ready and the whole family sits with me while I eat some hot dogs. The dad brings the tv outside for me and a special chair and everything.
The weren't the best hot dogs I ever tasted but they were the best I ever ate!
I went back across to the little hotel on the beach and fell asleep at about 8 pm.
Next time I'll take a photo.

I told you... in the guys front yard!
I probably won't give up the exact location because it was one of the best fishing trips I ever had. Alot of fish and very big ones.
I'm kinda sworn to secrecy.:cool:

El Rey del Taco, Loreto

Doesn't look like this anymore. In fact it's in a building next door to where this was taken. It's also not run by the same guy but by his son. Same old stuff though. I'm waaayyy over a thousand tacos in there and yet to have a bad bite.
