Hiway 1 to Asuncion to Abreojos to Hiway 1

Thinking of the circuit Hiway 1 - Asuncion - Abreojos - Hiway 1.

Can someone tell me the approximate mileage and road condition? I'm up on the road from the Highway to Asuncion- how is the rest of the trip?

Is the coast section worthwhile?
Objective is scenery, camping and maybe a little surfing and fishing.

These are approximates---but close. We don't do the exact to the foot measurements.

From highway 1 to the turnoff to Asuncion it is about 45 miles. All paved, but some really nasty areas of potholes.

Turn-off to Asuncion is about 26 +/- miles. Most of it is paved now, some bad spots where the storm damaged the first part of the road, but just be watchful. Last 8 +/- miles are dirt, and it depends on when the road grader has been through.

This part takes you through really open desert areas that we love.

Asuncion to Abreojos is 60+/- miles. To San Hipolito it is usually very good and then can become a real washboard. But, in the areas where you can drive on the salt flats, it is smooth as anything.

The road from Abreojos to Highway 1 is mostly paved---I think it is about only 5 miles of dirt.

Worth it? We love it. You will find some of the most isolated coast areas that are just beautiful. There can be surfing near Asuncion at Punta Choros and fishing all the way down --- lots of isolated camping spots. Just a beautiful area

Of course there should be surfing at Abreojos and then Campo Rene is well worth a visit.

But one person to whom we gave this information, hated the drive.

I would post a bunch of pictures of that coast line, but better you see it in person if you go.

a group of 8 bikers just set out from here to take that route....gorgeous scenery if you hug the shoreline...there are several options for little roads and we especially like the piece from San Hipolito-Pta.Prieta along the beach...enjoy...and stop in and eat lunch with Tita & Bimbo in San Hipolito next to the boat launch area...ask anyone.

Both are correct except it is more like 65 miles to Abreojos. Sorry Diane, couldn't resist. I would post years of pictures, but you should really see it for yourself!

Thanks!- mileage from Abreojos - to the next Pemex - San Ignacio? maybe 90 miles? I'm trying to determine if my F150 with dual tanks can make it.

Well close---but it is 62 miles from Campo Rene to the Pemex in San Ignacio and about 5 miles from Campo Rene to Abreojos, so that is less than 70 miles from Abreojos to Pemex in San Ignacio.:lol::lol:

My extensive number of photos are to follow, so we can see who has the best and most, but Thai food is waiting for me.

mojo_norte---if you love deserted beaches, go for it. The turn off to Abreojos is before the town of Bahia Asuncion, but do drive into Bahia Asuncion. Also there is a gas pump there where you can top off if you want. Do be sure to drive into Punta Prieta and San Hipolito---nice places.

HAVE FUN and ignore RTS and myself.

This is a great drive, you will enjoy it. Gas should not be an issue in your F-150 but as others have said you can find it if need be.

Now, exactly where did you begin your measurement? From the entrance to town from the main road or from the salt flat road? Or perhaps from downtown at the malecon?

And where did you end your measurement---at the turn off to Campo Rene, or the restaurant there. And if you were riding your quad while making these measurements, were you driving in a straight line?

Sorry, but it is my job to make sure you are giving absolutely, minutely, the EXACT information---the real truth.

Mojo, yes, when are you going? Your truck with duel tanks will be no problem---

If we are there---stop by and say hello.

Also, if you do stay in Asuncion, you might want to drive out to San Roque---beautiful place to camp---semi abandoned and no services like restaurants or such---9 miles +/- good dirt road. Quickly, you will see why it is the favorite of so many.

The road to San Roque is close to the entrance to town, right along side the Delegation and Police station.

Oh, there are more very deserted beaches along the road to San Roque---

Sounds like you will have a great time.

Diane

You are just picking on me because I support the freedom to measure from where you want. If you really cared you would never have questioned me from the beginning.

Now. Mojo.... Mileage is approximate but you should make it easily. Do top off in Asuncion so as not to have to worry. You never know about the next station.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Mojo---there are times the Pemex in San Ignacio can run out of gas---usually not for long. So if you are staying there and they are open, fill up and don't wait until later or the morning.

Also, where to fill water tank in camper - purificado or potable?
