With the exception of another major weather event, you will be able to make it. Just be prepared for delays in the areas where bridges were damaged. in other words, don't make any appointments or dinner reservations in Cabo for Saturday evening! Or even Sunday, for that matter.

As noted, it depends on the weather this week again. Sounds like the water flow has diminished enough that traffic is already starting to move around most of these downed bridges, and there should be an expectation that these areas would have a lot of thru-traffic by next week. Again, barring any further inclement weather.

As of 6 pm last night no tickets were being sold by ABC Bus going north or south of Ensenada. You can buy a ticket from TJ to Ensenada. Woohoo!! They said to call back every day as the Federal Police will advise them when they can get around the bridges safely. Over the years we have always been told that when the buses can flow so can you.

Well we are going to cross at SY today. What would be a good place with secure parking-pulling a small trailer-in Ensenada. Never stayed there on our way south before. Figured that would be a good place to stay until traffic was flowing and not floating!

Go through Ensenada and after Costco and Walmart look for the Estero Beach turnoff. It's a little pricey but safe. If you want to wait it out in Punta Banda on the beach, there is La Jolla Beach Camp right on the beach or Villarino's next door, on the beach but enclosed and full hookups. All three of these are good options. You might have a better chance of wifi at Estero Beach but in Punta Banda you will make lots of friends and be able to keep up to date on the road status. I would not go further south as that's when the road problems start. I will post any changes I know are factual.

Have you considered a ferry from the Mainland to either La Paz or Santa Rosalia? It is expensive, but so are hotels waiting.

ferry

Lots of people here have tried the ferry in Santa Rosalia but for some reason they are not answering. Enrique here at Mallarimo's is continually calling them but says perhaps due to the winds until today they might not have been sailing??? Some that have come North say that the ferry is sitting out in the lee of the island but it does not move. Just sharing what I hear!!;D;D

That ferry often cancels trips if it is too windy. It's sketchy. Even if someone reports by going to the terminal, that's no guarantee that it will run the next day. From what I understand, you wouldn't want to be on it when it is windy. The only thing you can do is show up and take your chances.

Tony,

That can be a hairy ride crossing on the Ferry no doubt.

I did it round trip back in 1978. Puerto Vallarta to Cabo, which was planned. Then an unplanned crossing from Santa Rosalia to the Mainland when storms caused the same problems as today. A friend and I were traveling the mainland by train from Mexicali to Tepic, bus to Barra de Navidad, ferry to Cabo and bus to Tijuana was the plan. Washed out bridge in El Rosario mixed it up a bit back then as well.

You always have to keep your options open!

:lol::lol: True! This fall, the river reaching a brown water class V... as those in Jungle Jims catch the first waft, I'll be zipping by in my raft. You are welcome to join, Mulegena, but I would advise keeping your mouth shut, or at least screen the spray through your teeth, like this>>>> :tumble: :barf: Life in Mulege is an Adventure!

The reported boat that is parked in the lee of the island is an ore boat that is waiting for a load of gypsum at San Marcos Island. It has nothing to do with the ferry which sailed this morning with a full load. Tony's report that it can get a bit bumpy when sailing in heavy winds is accurate and this is a slow ferry that is a pretty small boat. The office is usually only open a few hours before sailing and for a small while after and is not open 24/7. You can also get info on the website www.ferrysantarosalia.com For anyone that is in a hurry to get north, that might be an option but this time of the year they sail when they can and I have seen delays for up to 4 or 5 days when the winds are howling from the North.

Hotel San Nicolas has fenced parking with 24 hour security guard. Nice rooms, casino within the building, and less expensive than Estero Beach. Plus, you're close in to town with many dining options. That is, unless you're planning to stay in the trailer. Then, forget what I'm saying.

Glad you made it safely.. How long did it take you to get to Loreto? How was the road, wash outs and detours from Ensenada to Catavina..

Thanks
