Big Mother Yellowtail today in Asuncion!

On the advice of some wise benevolent Nomads, I granted Juan and his helper Juan Carlos a day off the rock pile to go fishing. Tio Javier and David tagged along and they set out this calm, clear morning in search of big yellowtail to San Pablo.

the boys did well jigging irons catching a few each, watching whales pass by close to the boat. Then they decided to go along shore to catch some calicos. Juan Carlos, our deckhand/fish cleaner was jigging with a root beer scampi on a light rod with 20 lb test when he got a bite and started reeling in what he thought was a calico...until it pulled HARD!

they couldnt believe it when he reeled it in...it was so heavy, the gaff slipped through it and they thought they lost it...but it was still hooked and Juan Carlos had to reel it in again...whew.

I do believe this fish is the biggest one this year...by far! We were sure it was over 50 pounds but the scale said 42.54 pounds.
An epic day!...back to the rock pile tomorrow boys!

That`s a home guard for sure! Don`t be surprised if the boys abandon the rock pile tomorrow for some more tail! But if they are good, I suppose they could get lucky twice!!

How long did it take Juan Carlos to land this fish with the light tackle? It's a beauty.

Why is it that all scales under-weigh fish and over-weigh me?

A lot of fish to bring in on 20lb test.

Shari, that fish is as big as you are and looks like it outweights Sirena. Wow, what a day they had. That will provide Sushi for a long long time for sure. Great job Juan Carlos, but a good thing that he had been working on the rock pile or he might have lost it.

when I asked the guys how long it took Juan Carlos to reel that baby in...Juan Carlos said around 45 minutes....Juan said half an hour and David said 15 minutes!!!hahahaha

JC is a great dechand, amigo and juan's right hand man on the rock pile, painter etc etc...terrific hard working guy who deserved this epic fish!! He is always helping all our anglers bring in their fish so it was cool he caught this monster.
