If you want to ship it UPS, I can get it fixed at Bronson"s Prop Shop in Santa Ana. Maybe in La Paz or Cabo???

Phone # for BajaMar Outboards(613) 135.0237 in Loreto has a limited selection.

You can also check with IMENSA in Ensenada, ask for Lucio..

Prop repaired in Loreto

Thanks to all for the above suggestions and offers of help. Greatly appreciated and I've made notes for future reference.

Here's what happened yesterday while I was in Loreto.

First I stopped by the fishing tackle store on Benito Juarez avenue to buy some gear and talk with the manager. I told him about my needed prop repair and he recommended Ramon, a soldadura/welder just down the street a couple of blocks..near the llantera & supermarket on Juarez.

I also asked if he sold props that would fit my Evinrude ETech 115? I was in luck. He had a universal aluminum prop that we measured and it matched up shaft-size perfectly. I bought it for $1400 pesos to have as another spare.

Next I went to talk to another old aquaintance from my times in Loreto many years ago, Cunningham's boat yard.. a couple blocks south of the Pescadero supermarket.

We talked about whether he could work on a Evinrude Etec in case I needed it...and unfortunately he said no, but was qualified on almost every other brand..Yammie, Suzie, Merc, etc. I then asked him about who he thought could repair a stainless steel prop? - Que repara las hélices de acero inoxidable en Loreto?

He confirmed that Ramon was the guy to see. That was enough for me..2 votes for Ramon, so off I go to find him.

I found his shop easily and talked with the solo worker who was there at the time. Explaining and showing him what I wanted, he thought it was possible and then used his cellphone to call Ramon. Ramon and I talked about my prop problem. I told him that I lived in Coyote Bay and was only in town for a couple hours, having business at the airport, then wanted to hurry back to Mulege in time for a birthday party at the Jungla. He said not to worry..he'd have it done in una hora and triente minutos.

(1-1/2 hours??) Hearing that time frame, I thought, Hmm..that's pretty dang quick for Baja time! I'll just figure the prop being done sometime 'today' and be content.

Bueno! I left the prop with Ramon's employee.

I went for a nice lunch of fish tacos at Augie's on the malecon while watching the pelicans diving close to the shoreline. Nice place and visited a bit with the owner & crew holding court in there. We yakked about the big island of Carmen, the old salt mine, fishing, etc.

Note: It was A VERY WINDY DAY in Loreto.

The small Horizon jet (Alaska Airlines) was due in soon, so off we went to the airport. Ramon's was on the way, so I pulled in to check on his progress with my prop...even though it had only been one hour since I dropped it off.

Guess what? It was done and ready to go. Una hora..One hour. Got to be some kind of Baja record!

All in all, it was a good day in Loreto...and Gracias to Ramon for getting my prop done so quickly.

Glad you got it handled Pompano! I'd run the aluminum prop. The $$$ add up when you crunch the shiny ones. Is the performance worth it?

Opps...forgot to mention that the total repair bill on a SS prop costing a few hundred bucks was ...

.. 400 pesos. $30.74 USD

As Co-pilot often says: Wow!

Me? I say...I love Baja! ;)

Stateside repairs? Recently I had another SS prop repaired at this good shop in Spring Valley, Ca. (San Diego area)

http://www.propellersofsandiego.com/html/contact.php

That cost was $100, which is extremely reasonable for the US. I highly recommend that shop. Ask for ED. Tell him Hi & the fishing is still good down here.

I'll be putting the rebuilt prop to it's test later today or manana and will post the results.

Hola chippy...

I should have taken a close up of the tear in one blade..and the dent in another.

This is what it looks like now. Almost as good as new and I will test it manana for any vibration.
