clamming between puertocitas and bahia de concepcion
Looking for information on clamming in the area between puertocitas and bahia de concepcion. Will be in the area starting March 12, love clams, and
hope someone can direct us to good spots.

That is several hundred miles of coast!
Yes, there are clams... and no, you can not take them if you are not a Mexican national. No shellfish (lobster, crabs, oysters, etc.) can be taken by
non-Mexicans for any reason.
Of course, there are other laws on the book that get violated by tourists and locals, as well... 80 kph speed limit, operating a vehicle on the beach,
rigging the gas pumps to incease profits...
Have fun, look under rocks or for tracks in the sand at low tide... bring butter to melt...

the good spots are in the ocean, usually around knee deep at low, low tide.
oh yeah, it's illegal for non-Mexicans to possess shellfish. don't worry about the small stuff.... no one else does.

it is also illegal for mexicans to have shell fish too. the shell fish can only be in the hands of the co-op. if you are not a member of the co-op
with a legal license you can have the shell fish. Even a Mexican must have a transportation permit to tranport lobster from the co-op to your
restaurant.
many gringo have gotten clams here at the beach and our guest have never had a problem with anyone. I always tell them it is illegal. you can get some
for a meal it they are legal size and not a sack full. in 29 years i never had a problem.

the very southern portion of bahia de concepcion is really good digging on a low tide....beware that there have been some car breakins there so keep
your car in sight

PROFEPA is monitoring this board.. just kidding!!!
I was in San Felipe 2 weeks ago, got a panga in town, fished local and bang!! PORFEPA in 2 large Boston Whalers with twin Honda 250s swooped down out
of nowhere cruised by slowly giving us the once over. I could have handed them a cold beer. I sure they would have checked us for licenses and our
catch but luckily for us there was a commercial fishing panga next to us that also caught their eye and left us for them.. Pangeros report stepped up
PROFEPA activity especially at the Island,
I had a friend busted by PROFEPA 2 years ago for having shell fish in his possession.
I still clam but with a good sense of paranoia!!

Laws are laws, just keep it low key and low yield, and you should be OK. At bigger minus tides, the beaches in La Mision are full of poachers, Mexican
and gringos, and never a problem.

you can harvest so many in just a few minutes in the north caleta at PSFO that it will blow your mind and your gut.
the cocina will steam them for you if you buy some beers to go with.
4 of us ate them for about an hour straight. with BUTTER 
limes and beer!!!!!!
oh, and fresh torts.
no clam cops around for miles.

If you read the Mexican newspapers, right now there is a big stink going on about illegal fishing and contaminated seafood in the Mexican food supply.
One headline said 40% of the fishing in the SOC was illegal. PROFEPA's politcos are in the papers saying the have increased their vigilence.

So much for being subtle you guys. Exactly why are you promoting the personal harvesting of clams?
Pointing out where to get them in a public forum is just pushing it.
That just ain't right. Go ahead and eat your clams just stfu about it. Stop bragging about breaking the laws in another country.

PROFEPA is all over San Felipe. Lots of them. Been for awhile and they are going to stay. Good to see them here. They are definitely doing their jobs.
