New road construction into Asuncion!
Yesterday we did a little road trip to Vizcaino and were surprised to learn that the new paved highway into Asuncion will take the "whoopty doo"
roller coaster road instead of following the "powerpole" route!!! I couldnt believe it...anyone who has taken this road will know why....it is a
series of roller coaster type hills... while it is a bit shorter than the other road, I just cant imagine paving all those hills...will they fill
them? lots of little arroyos....hmmm....
It's gonna be real fun driving that stretch when paved....maybe get some air time!
I just LOVED this semi named Barbie...not often a semi is painted pink! they are gonna need a whack of culverts!

they have graded a huge road...looks like a 4 lane highway going in...here is the camp where the heavy machinery is kept. The whole road into town is
supposed to be finished by the summer. Lots of local kids will be scoring jobs for a few months.

This is a shocker! I guess they want to follow the water line and not the power. I can hardly believe it. Now, when will they start repairing
the salt flat road to Viscaino.

good question about the pot holed road...it is a real bad mess now...the dirt road below is a better option...almost no pavement left in places on the
blacktop around the salt flats.

Why isn't normal maintenance of pavement included whan they approve a budget for a highway, in Mexico?
Specially when they go cheap and only use an inch of asphalt on top of the dirt?
It almost seems like a way to appease the voters before an election...??

I wonder what the big problem is with the pavement in to Asuncion. The road they paved in to Abreojos seems to have held up much better. Are there
that many more Canadians in big mohos driving in?

Yes, as we were leaving, we saw the beginning of the work on the last of the dirt road.
But part of the so called road out of Vizcaino is HORRIBLE. There is one area where traffic have created a side dirt road, and you are well advised
to take the dirt. The broken pavement and the pot holes are getting deeper and deeper.
There are parts of the really bad road you can not avoid as there is not side road---too soft and wet. It is like driving through a mine field.
A couple of our friends in Asuncion told us that when they built that road they were supposed to use a lot of rocks and fill over the salt flats, and
the contractors cut corners. Thus, the salt leaches up through the pavement and causes it to deteriorate much faster.
Now, that is what we have been told, but I know nothing about road building, I just know it is really awful. While we look forward to the final
paving, we would be happier if they were rebuilding the Vizcaino road.

Depends. Our road was built over time (years) by multiple contractors. One center section that was obviously not constructed as well is starting to
deteriorate with the last series of rains. The rest seems to be holding up.
