San Rafael camping -

This learning curve - posting photos is a b__ch. Hope this works. I had miles of coastline to myself - off the road to San Rafael - the OTHER road that branches to get to Bahia Asuncion. There's a coastal route available that gets you to the beach.

They curl tight and crash, and I would have to think there'd be good surfing days. One of my favorite remembrances was seeing a seal silouetted and streaking inside a wave as it was peaking. The geology around here is fascinating. Distinct layers of the cliff - about 50 feet? - show ancient lava flow at the base with shells in it. Another layer at least a foot deep that is all large clam shells - a million of them - there's another layer on top of that - the one with fossil shells laying on it and some indigenous midden tools. You'd have to think that bottom layer must be 2 million years old - and there are shells in it - you can tell that some are abalone. I have photos - maybe tomorrow night I'll fool around with uploading, etc.

A GPS waypoint isn't some magic bean that makes people go someplace, Woody. It is just a different way to give a direction... it is not easier than mileages either... Just more accurate for those who are able to use them.

this is a truly magnificent spot...here is one of my photos of that area. Its' funny...if there is one person at one of our favorite secret beaches....we just amble on down the camino to the next one...this was one of those days although it wasnt a person on the beach but the fishermen were netting sardines close to shore at our secret beach so we went a bit further down and am glad we did cause I got some really cool photos.

the funny (not really!) thing is DK will probably never come back to your neck o' the coast. as beautiful as it is (along with another area that shall remain unnamed) he doesn't see the beauty in the desolation, unless it's a place HE loves.....

see ya soon! BTW, what kinda micro brew do ya want? only one requirement, it MUST be American made since Canada won the gold!!!!

soulpatch...juan & I are minimalist campers and dont even bring a grill....we just walk the beach for a bit and find an old lobster trap washed up and burn off the plastic coating and use it!...no muss no fuss...quick and dirty...less is better.

DK-I don't think they are referring to Bahia San Rafael which is on the Sea of Cortez. I'd give you the GPS way-points except I don't have a GPS.
