Shirley Miller

I regret to announce the passing of a very good friend who loved Baja. Shirley Miller died of viral complications in a Portland hospital on Friday March 12, 2010. She's romped all over Baja, often by herself. She co-wrote the first edition of The Baja Book with her ex-husband. She founded the Mexico West Travel Club. She proofed and provided direction for my Baja Legends book and was an inspiration to me in other projects. She was a long-time Executive Director of the Outdoor Writers Association of California. She was fun-loving, down-to-earth, and commanded respect.

I inadvertently hit the send button before I added that Shirley will be missed by so many of us. As her daughter Maureen noted, "Shirley, the avid traeler, has reached her final destination."

Sweet time catches up with us all. Rapido le seguimos, Amiga! I was inspired by her Baja Book and joined Mexico West a long time ago. I was always a little jealous of her travel lifestyle. Que le vaya bien, Shirley. Tomas

Vaya con Dios

I first met Shirley back when I joined Mexico West. A great lady, whose love of Baja was infectious. Best wishes to her family.

Sad news indeed... I was friends of Tom and Shirley Miller... and Shirley introduced me to the young lady that would become my first wife and mother of my two children... That was in 1984 at a Mexico West Travel Club camping and clam digging party at POSADA DON DIEGO in Col. V. Guerrero.

Vaya Con Dios Shirley... and thank you for the Baja connection!

Shirley and Tom were both good freinds with us. They spend many times in our home. Shirley was one of the nicest ladies i ever meant. She loved adventure.
I have often wonder what happened to her after she left for Costa Rica. I will remember her always.
You will be missed by all who new you Shirley.
Descanse en Paz amiga.
