day trip in Mulege area, San Nicolas/San Sebastian

Two jeeps took the road to San Nicolas for the first time. Grated, but still washboard and bumpy with narrow parts going through the coastal hills. Love the view from above and just below the hairpin curve, seeing both the Bay of Concepcion and the Sea of Cortez. Saying that, it's an okay road by Baja standards. 17 Kms took maybe 40 minutes. Then we explored the beach, doubled back to the fork in the road and proceeded north along the coast. Las Ramaditas is a cool cove. Definitely a world apart. We took a break at the north end to walk the tide pools. Found a starfish eating a porcupine pufferfish. Also neat red-legged hermit crabs. Proceeding north the road became more challenging. It's obvious that determination is the only reason there is a road. Glad we were in a jeep.
Stopped in San Sebastian to eat lunch on the beach. Definitely got the cold shoulder and the caretaker was sent to check on us. We didn't tarry, but didn't rush, to drive back out to Hwy 1 on a decently maintained road.

Yep, a smuggler's destination....but some helpful folks once they know what brought you there....a rarely visited area, but delightful...
