Fewer Spring Breakers this year forces Rosarito to do the unthinkable- invite the locals

The UT printed this on the front page in today's Enlace Section (spanish language) only- with no links to upload.

"Rosarito Speaks Spanish for your Spring Break"

For the first time Rosarito Beach authorities are trying to get Mexicans to come to the Spring Break Zone to play, eat, stay overnight and mingle at the pools and rock concerts with the tourists for Semana Santa (Easter week and local school break). A 250 peso package per person includes"hosting", food and the parties. Participating Spring Break hotels: Brisas del Mar, Festival Plaza, Las Rocas, Grand Baja Resort, and the Rosarito Inn. They used the word "hospedaje" and I think that is use of the facilities of the hotel, not an overnight room. Talk about being invited late to the party and not too many Rosaritenses will find 250 pesos per person affordable for a day-pass, but it's better to be invited to party in your own town late than never.

The week's event starts today at 1-6pm for the Taco and Beer Festival. They have half of Benito Juarez Blvd blocked off- set up a stage, tables, chairs and Taco/beer stations. Even I might have to take the off-road walker over for that one... it is in the daytime and there are 20 additional bi-lingual Policeman, Fireman and Lifeguards assigned to the area for the week.

My nephew and his girlfriend go out dancing every weekend but never to the tourist zone to party- they said the clubs never make them feel welcome. They wouldn't mind mixing with same -aged American kids to see how they dress, dance and act- but they and their friends don't go. They also prefer Mexican/Spanish live music to dance to and Karaoke is still a huge nightly draw at the clubs away from the tourist zone.

Smart move. Estero Beach seems to be doing the same thing. Only the nimble (and flexible) stay alive in a tough economy...

No Spring Break for him

32-year old man shot 9 times in broad daylight in front of his two kids, aged 3 and 5, who were in the back seat of his car. You should recognize the location as the north end of Benito Juarez in Rosarito.

I used to think the SEMEFO truck went around fixing intersection lights.

Nope...that's the coroner.

A reader's comment about this in Frontera:

Quote:

My translation:

Quote:
I saw it, passed in a taxi at the time, and they had just finished executing him... the reality felt really ugly, ... but I did not know that his children were there too .. when I arrived .. only he was there with holes in his head, behind the wheel and still with the seat belt on .. My deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife and innocent little children ..

People, don't get into trouble .. the children will end up with no parents, please! ... better to eat crumbs in peace, than to have many riches where there is also strife and worse ... Come to God, and start to live a different life ...
