I was going to say it looked a little thin on campers. I hope it picks up, for the local merchants sake. I'm sure they count on a couple good weeks
about now.

Perhaps the good news is that so many folks ARE there. Face it. Not much has changed recently. Still the ugly drug war and violence. Still massive
anxiety over jobs and the economy. Oh. And of course, there's still that pesky passport requirement thingy. Just hoping that the locals can hold on
for awhile. Here's hoping for a better 2011 spring break.

You are preaching to the choir. For a myriad of reasons, the US has one of the lowest rates of passport ownership in the developed world. I totally
agree with you. But the facts are the facts.

Hubris. We've developed culture that considers the US to be so far superior to the rest of the world, that, "why would anyone want to go anywhere
else?"
I've been to many countries around the world. Folks I've talked to readily admit that the US has done so many things right, and find it an attractive
place to visit or even to live in. At the same time, I've heard many tales about the ugly American, who disparages other nations and cultures. I
cringe at the thought that I might be making this thread political, but fact is that our last president was such a person; who really never traveled,
despite his family's wealth.

Cringe? rejoice
Before requirements for passport to Canada and Mexico why would most USA citizens have any need or desire for a passport., Most cannot afford to
travel overseas and many have no desire to do so.

There you go again howard.
Really, it doesn't take too much thought to figure out why Americans don't partake of foreign travel as compared to Europeans, for example.

Ken. I really don't understand your animus. I suggest that you tell everyone what countries you have visited. Then, maybe we could compare you to GWB.
I'm getting just annoyed that you jump me for reasons unknown. It certainly couldn't be because I have traveled and have had conversations with people
from many countries. Tell me how many European countries you have visited and how much time you have spent there. Outside of Europe, how many
countries? Lets leave Europe out of this. Have you been to Russia? Ukraine? Turkey? Egypt? Japan? Thailand? Indonesia? Morocco? South Africa? Chile?
Argentina? Brazil? Honduras? Brazil? It is really hard to become a scholar without reading books. Just let me know. If you have actually been to
anywhere near the majority of the nations I list and can still diss me, then, you are obviously part of the problem and nowhere close to the solution.

Reasons are very simple. You raise hell when others posting a conservative political angle out of the blue, yet you do it yourself frequently from
the left. I also get tired of your America hating comments, and when I read them I respond to them. Simple.
My foreign travel unfortunealty has been limited to Europe, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. As I enter retirement shortly I will correct that
deficiency in a big way! We will be spending 2 weeks this September traveling in Spain as a matter of fact.
Expect me to continue to comment in the future. Compare me to GWB based on my travel experience? WTF?
Ken

Ken. Mi amigo. I really hope that you are fortunate enough to travel the world. Perhaps your travels will enlighten your perspective. Just think. I'm
still here. You need to consider the numbers of ex-pats who post on this forum. Before you diss me, you may want to consider the number of folks on
this forum who live full time in Mexico. So. Here I am in Orange County. Ya think that somehow, I'm anti- American? I just want to see this wonderful
nation achieve the best that it can. If sometimes, that involves criticizing it, so be it.

It may come as a surprise to some, but most US citizens don't need passports because they can't afford to visit other countries. Yes, it might be hard
to believe, but not everyone has the cash to travel abroad etc.

Hey guys! From my observations, the beach revelers at Concepcion are Mexican...so they don't really have a need for passports! Aren't they all out
celebrating Semana Santa? It's not Spring Break for the Gringos, it's Holy Week, folks!!!

FYI and hopefully education -- which apparently is lacking
THE UGLY AMERICAN? CANADIAN?
THE UGLY AMERICAN?
There was a very popular best selling book printed in 1958 tilled "The Ugly American," by Lednerer and Burdick. It should be a required reading for
any one visiting a foreign country
The rich good looking charming American Ambassador to the country is the villain. He is loud, arrogant , boastful and ignorant of the wants and needs
of the small fictional SE Asian nation. He has an air of superiority and only considers the top social and economic strata of the nation as his
equals. His policy and the American policy of that post Viet Nam era was to supply rice to a nation that was exporting rice, to build bridges where
none was needed and super highways for ox carts
Surprising the "Ugly American," Homer Akins, is not the villain but rather the hero of the story. He is very crude short of stature, and not in any
way attractive, but he listens and befriends the locals--he is known by them as the "Ugly American." He is aware that the nation does not need more
rice, bridges over depressions and super highways. What is universally needed is a very low tech way to raise water from one rice paddy to another for
irrigation. Homer and his native friend modify some discarded bicycles wheels and other items to create a pedal powered water lift.
This irritates the Ambassador so Homer is forced to leaves the US foreign service and establishes a company with his native friend manufacturing water
lifts--He is the national hero the "Ugly American."
>>>I would strongly suggest all who apply "Ugly Americans" or "Ugly Canadians" so freely reevaluate the term and it's almost pandemic
misinterpretation and usage
I would also strongly suggest that all from the US and Canada who frequently travel abroad and especially to Baja obtain a copy and read "The Ugly
American"
