Abreojos to Asuncion

I'm in the early stages of putting my three weeks trip in Baja together, that I'm taking in June, and was hoping some of the Asuncion-heads could chime in. About how far is the drive from Abreojos from there? Also, could use some info on Abreojos, as far as how sketchy the camping situation is there,or what accomodations there is or isn't.

It's been awhile but I wanna say about 1.5-2 hours depending on speed and stops. Sound about right folks?

As for the camping I wouldn't call it sketchy but i wouldn't leave a lot of loose stuff lying around either. Camping is right next to the dirt road following the point. Best to keep honest people honest.

Agreed---it is about 65 miles depending on if you visit San Hipolito and or Punta Prieta. Time also depends on if there has been no rain and the tide is not high, you can drive on the salt flats in a couple of areas.

It always takes us longer as we stop a lot---some great isolated beaches along the way.

if you want to camp in a really cool, safe spot, look up tita and bimbo in San Hipolito...they live beside the coops boat ramp and have a dynamite camp spot oceanside and will spoil you rotten!! (they are my husbands sister and brother in law)
From San Hipolito I highly recommend the coast road...just keep left and go along the shoreline...it's a smoother road.

I'm talking to the pros....thanks.. After about a week or so of this leg, i was thinking about swinging over to the Cortez side for some inflatable kayak fishing, and relaxation. Any other suggestions would be great as well. Although, I'm hoping that i don't pop my boat with a fishhook and become bait myself. :wow:

I haven't logged in for a couple of years. My wife and I camp in this area every year. We avoid the the point near Abre. Can get crowded with surfers and windsurfers and lots of flies. There are plenty of empty beaches to the north. We camp alone never seeing another human , except for the pangaderos that cruise by. If you want to camp alone on a beautiful beach they are plentiful between Abre and Ascuncion. Just be sure to visit the towns. They are equally beautiful.

Central Coast Magic

We just visited Shari and Juan in Asuncion and took an afternoon trip to San Hipolito via the coastal track.

What a beautiful treasure of a little town situated just off the main north-south road. The village rests on a gently sloping hillside which glides effortlessly down to the mouth of the bay.

If you're looking for unspoiled Baja come make this tour and be sure to stop off in these little coastal villiages.
