Double Trailers?
Hola! I've been browsing around as an anonymous reader for a few years but finally decided that I have to post a question.
Is it actually legal to pull a double trailer down Mex 1?
(Or, put another way, am I going to be stopped by every cop that sees it??)
The rig I have in mind is a 4x4 truck and a small travel trailer with a 14ft aluminum boat tagged on behind. Been running this rig NOB for a few
years and actually have a state drivers liscense with a double trailer endorsement.
Not worried about the highway, just the legality of it. My wife and I are long time seasoned Baja travelers and have probably logged over 50K miles
on Mex 1 over the last 18 years. So, not a Newbie to Baja but definately a Newbie to this board!
P.S. -- (The aluminum boat is to replace a tired inflatable boat. The last time out the fish won! Older boat+big fish+treble hooks makes for a very
wet ride home. But that's a story for another post .....)

Welcome RnR
I know I have seen this over the years with some coming and staying here at the Posada Don Diego.
But I don't know if it was legal.
If the Federals are here for Sunday Brunch I will ask them and let you know. They come in most Sunday's.
Get back to you

Yes, please ask the Federales directly.
We have stayed at the Posada going both ways for many years (starting before you added on the big new room and bar) and recommend it highly. Good
restaurant and QUIET.

I saw a set of double 40s come out of a side street yesterday. It looked like a freight train.
Shipping companys do it all the time. Don't know if your insurance company will go for it.
Speaking of which...you do know that a towed vehicle requires it's own insurance policy down here..doncha?

Don't want to hijack my own thread by switching to insurance, but, it's my understanding that liability insurance is applicable to the tow vehicle and
comprehensive is optional on the tow vehicle and any towed vehicles. As you noted, each towed vehicle has to be identified separately. Been running
bare on the travel trailer for a few years now as the insurance cost vs value just doesn't seem worth it.

Well, you probably know more about the details than I do since I've never had a need to research it further.
I'm going to be buying a small utility trailer soon so I guess it's time for me to look into it. My main concern is covering the liability. Too much
to lose.

Hi just talked to a Federal he said no problem just make sure you have lights. Told him the lenght is about 20 meters. like 66 ft. He asked how long.
figure about 32ft on each. So you should be good.
So hope to see you on the way down. You know you have plently of room here for parking. No need to un-hook just pull thru.
Drive careful and check the lights
About the insurance my friends years ago did not have any on the tow vehicle. Well it came lose and crashed into a light pole and they had to cover
all expenses and the motorhome the Federals was going to hold until everything was paid. But they let them keep it here in the park until they could
show proof that it was paid.
