Show me your palapa and I'll show you mine!!

Ok, so as we speak my palapa is being built in San Felipe. However, I am not there.

I will get to see it the next I am down in a week. My neighbor, who is watching the progress, told me it looks great. It is 18 feet accross, 3 posts and 14 feet high.

I would like to see how you set your palapa up.

I for one would love to see pictures of people's palapas. It seems like a fun and adventurous way to live or vacation. If and when I get to the point where I will get to build a palapa, I would like to hire a palapa builder to teach me how to build one, or I would just try to wing it. I would seem that bare wood pushed into the sand would get termites really fast. There must be a way to place a barrier between the sand and the wood. Maybe put a layer of rhino truck liner material on the part of the posts that are in the ground or dip the wood in melted lead or aluminum if it doesn't burn the wood.

Beautiful palapa, Bill! After seeing all the fantastic palapas in Mulege & Loreto, I always wanted one.. I've seen a few little casitas style hotels that are all palm, wood, and glass with ttile floors. The bar/restaraunt at La Jolla in
san Jose del Cabo is a favorite with patio and swimming pool!! I'm sure other Nomads have pictures of theirs. If I ever learn how to post pics I will post mypalapa living space---11ft walls with 16ft high ceiling---5m by 10. Muy Tropical! Tio

That is just BEAUTIFUL.
What a great set up. How does it hold up in a Hurricane? Did it all just blow off?
Do you have a sprinkler system in it? Or on top?
Looks awesome.
Very nice place.
Thanks for sharing your photos.

Bill,

What are the dimensions of that palapa? it is a beauty. I love palapa's, but I hate sleeping under them. My wife woke me up one night and asked me what was crawling in her hair. It was a 6" centipede. She felt it land on her, and it woke her up. After that we moved the bed outside under the stars..

My wife grew up on a ranch that was all palapa roofs, they hung tarps under the palapa so the scorpions, centipedes and snakes fell on the tarp and slid away from the bed and not in it.

I know you can fumigate, but then you are introducing Poision into your home. I for one don't want my 4 month old son exposed to that.

I plan on having a palapa, but it won't be part of the living space.

However, that is one nice palapa...

You must sleep in that trailer...I just noticed it.

Irene.....Thanks. The storm ruffled its feathers a bit, but there was no significant damage. I don't have a sprinkler system, but that would be a good idea.

drzura.....I don't know what the market value would be. The trick would be to find one. I traveled up and down the peninsula for a year and a half after I retired before I found this one.

fishabductor.....The palapa is 40' x 60'. No problem with centipedes or scorpions. The windows all around open and have no screens, so mosquitoes come in if they're around. I do have screens on the trailer and sleep in it. I've never fumigated the palapa.
