Dish Network Signal Strength Since Satellite Swap to E14?
Near the end of May, Dish Network replaced their old satellite at 119° Echostar 7 with a new one, Echostar 14. Many viewers in Central Mexico and
further south lost reception entirely. We saw some channels get stronger, but which ones seems to change almost daily while they're testing and
adjusting power levels and antennas on the satellite.
I would be interested in hearing from other Nomads about what signal strength you have on your Dish Network receiver. To get this info, press MENU
> 6 > 1 > 1 on your remote control.
Using the blue ARROW keys on the remote to maneuver, change the SATELLITE to 119.
Then scroll through the TRANSPONDERs, one at a time. Wait five to ten seconds each time to change transponders so the receiver has time to lock on to
the signal. Some will not have any signal and this is normal.
I'd like to know:
1) Your location
2) Size of dish
3) Who made the dish
40 Transponder Signal strengths.
To start it off, here are some numbers we gathered a few weeks ago:

That's Interesting
South of San Felipe, after seeing a number of "Signal Error" messages towards the end of May, I noticed in checking that a number of the signal
strengths were down from the last time I'd looked.
NOW I know why. Thanks.
When I am able to check the signal strengths, I'll post them.

I had considered checking to see if aiming the 9 foot dish at 129 would pull in the zero value transponders but after just checking lyngsat it appears
they are all spot beams so it wouldn't matter anyway.

The sat maps shows a reception pattern that looks like a wave. You are doing better in Todos than we are doing here in Los Barriles. We have 5
transponders that have much reduced power, 7, 8, 10 and 14 come in with about 12 to 14 on a 1.2, 14 will work but takes a very fine tune to get it to
a yellow signal level. Looks like the 7/8 change over is done, and so we hope no more losses...The Satellite Guy

Our condo HOA does not have a "HD" sat dish. Just glad we can get as many channels and good reception as we do!

My Dish rig has gone on the fritz twice in one week it goes through a transponder check for no reason it seems. Soon after it acts right. Is this
because of the Sat change?

Hard to say. You may have something wrong with your setup; LNB going bad, antenna mis adjusted,
corrosion in the cables, etc. Post your location, dish size and your TP signal levels, or send them by U2U, and I'll take a look.

Sorry, Udo, didn't notice you had asked me a question. Those are odd readings for the
119°. Are you using an "FTA-type" receiver? On the 119° satellite, Dish Network only uses TPs 1-21 and you show 0 signal there. DirecTV uses the TPs
from 22 thru 32. Otherwise, you may have been looking at the TP levels from the 110° satellite, not the 119°?

Alan, my receiver is an HR22-100, HD DVR.
I am very certain that I switched the receiving satellite to 119, Alan.
I will run throught the set-up again, just to verify the settings. If they turn out different, I'll let you know.

Not since Mega put up a grocery store with an orange front; or Starbucks announced it was arriving in town; ditto Subway, has there been such an
uproar in San Miguel. It started a month ago.
It was a quiet uproar that was carried out on the Civil List and by telephone. "Do you have Dish network service"? "No do you?" "Any channels?" "No,
do you?"
Then the realization set in that although many expats had been paying for pirated service with a fictitious address, SOMETHING was wrong, terribly
wrong.
Calls went out to the installer in San Miguel. He had no answers. Some called the tech support office of Dish. But, of course if your address was in
NYC or Del Rio, or wherever, they had no clue what was wrong.
Well, it appears what IS wrong is that the satellite stopped functioning and another satellite was put into service. It does not, as I've been told
but cannot verify, provide service to San Miguel any longer. I don't know but if Dish was anywhere else in Mexico, I wonder if it is gone there also.
It's like a nest of red ants has been knocked over. People are scurrying trying to find another service. Some people on the Civil list have been
questioning the integrity of the installer - as if he could move a satellite! Isn't it interesting how people go into "attack mode" when they are
angry and upset?
I've been on the sidelines watching and hearing all of this. I don't quite know what to make of it. The roar has subsided now. So I guess either
people are getting used to talking to whoever they live with or they have found other means of recreation. Who knows?

We've been getting calls and Emails from all over; San Miguel De Allende, Mexico City, Merida, Cancun, Cozumel, etc. Many people scrambling to restore
TV service, installing larger dishes, pointing to other satellites, etc.
We even got a couple of calls from other dealers/installers out of the Yucatan peninsula looking for a solution to restore the "Big Four" networks
(ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox). Turns out they were subscribing many customers in the area to the Local networks out of Miami on a spot beam. The spot beam
went down with the the satellite swap so no more Miami networks.
BTW, we do have a cure for this, and we can set any Dish Network subscriber in Mexico or the US with either the standard-definition networks from SF
and NY, or the HD networks from LA and Chicago, provided they have reception from the 119° or the 110° Send me a U2U if interested.
