Conditions in Baja now?
Hello again!
My wife owns a fourplex apartment setup in Ensenada .. about 3 blocks from the McDonald's on Reforma, near the Limon shopping mall.
Until lately, this was to be our place to retire to ( or another house in Ensenada near Cicese ) .. however, we are concerned with the vilence we see
and read about in the news.
Our daughter in law , in Ensenada, has had a sister murdered about a year and a half ago there ..

You didn't mention the circumstances of your DiL's death. Was it a random killing?

Welcome to the forum. There are quite a few nomads that live in and around Ensenada. I'm sure they will give you their best assessment. As a frequent
visitor, my personal feeling is that crime in and around Ensenada is not something that should be a deal-breaker as far as deciding to live there. Any
city, anywhere in the world will have a certain level of crime. For the most part, Ensenada has avoided the widely reported bloodshed associated with
the drug cartel v. government war. It's nothing like Tijuana or Juarez. Not close.

What were the circumstances of the "intentional" killing, must have some logic behind this.

According to Ensenada PD and others, she was killed by persons she knew ... perhaps a jealousy thing ... cant go into more detail in case
investigation is still pending ... PD say they know who the perpetrators are .. not sure why they havent acted yet though

hmmmmm maybe take an extended vacation and sus it out first..... hard call ..... every city is dangerous to an extent .... we even had a crime here, a
serious murder attempt on a camper on the beach and we still dont know what really happened
we live in one of the most remote areas of southern Baja. we feel safe and love it here but, like I said, even our area got hit once.

Well then I believe you have your answer... The same type killings occur all over the world not just here.... It quite obviously was not related to
anything happening with the cartels nor a random act of violence....

Thank you "NOPROBLEMO2" you're exactly right. So let's get on a positive note, cause I just this afternoon got back from the La Fonda Hotel south of
Rosarito Beach. Had a wonderful Sunday brunch for $13 yesterday with all the margatitas and bloody marys we wanted. Didn't see any violence. Mostly
cute school kids in their uniforms going to school as usual and parents going to work as usual. No line at the sentri lane @ 9 AM. On second thought
all you scardy cats stay under the couch and hide. I'm havin' a great time without you.

There is much more of a police/army presence in Ensenada and environs than in the past, which I don't particularly mind. My biggest complaint is the
worsening traffic. Northbound south of town this past Saturday was the pits. Didn't detract, however, from my always happy Tacos Los Poblanos
experience.
