some fm3 questions

fm3 questions

Looks like I'm going to be renting a place in Ensenada(with a view of a right hand point break I'm sure everyone here has heard of!) and I'm hoping somebody could help me figure this out. I've got this 180 day tourist visa that I've had for two trips now, and from what I've gathered is that I will need an FM3 if I'm paying rent and to be able to pay utilities, and to be actually legal. Also, I don't know if it makes any difference, but I will still be working in the states for a week out of every month. Would it be alright to wait until my FMM expires for the FM3?, and is there any immigration person recommended in the Ensenada area to get assistance in getting it?

You can get by for six months with the FMM if you're renting everything, house etc. It's like being on a six month vacation.
Don't read too much into the restrictive nature of this document in Ensenada. Just stay off the radar screen and nobody will care what you do. There's no one out there looking for foreigners who don't comply.
Besides, what you're doing is all they ask for...if anyone was asking.

really - why bother?
just keep "tourist" status. pay cash no one want's to chase you.
i rented in baja 7 years AND paid utilities in my name. all on a FMT level pass.
now if i was BUYING i'd look at it differently.
an FM3 for the 2 of us (if you're married you each need one) would cost about $400 to $800 total a year as i understand it depending on who's processing and where.

If you do decide to get an FM3 (which is debatable in your case), you need to apply before the FMM expires, as a current FMM is required when you apply for an FM3.

Congrats on the new place, glad you found something to suit your needs. Do get the FM-3 started prior to the 180 expiring... Enjoy..

thanks for all the help! I will probably just wait until the fmm expires then. I had been reading stuff that made it sound like I would end up with all my stuff and self in solitary confinement if something weird were to happen without the Fm3. About this Fmm, i keep reading places how this new 180 card MUST be surrendered when leaving Mex. Well, ive already messed that up, and that would mean 22 bucks and the IMM office every time coming and going-seems a little foggy to me.

You can get your FM3 in the states at the mexican consulate. It is much easier and you can do it yourself. if you do it MEX. pay someone at least the first time around.

If you get your FM3 at the Consulate, you STILL have to register in Ensenada. Go see Blanca as suggested by schlwind. She's the best.

I tried to get a FM3 in Calexico and Yuma and they both said I need to get the FM3 in the immigration office in Mexico.
