NEW BARBEQUE-REASON ENOUGH FOR A PARTY.
DEDICATION OF A NEW BARBEQUE
Back in March of this year...after a run of 30+ years, the old barbeque recently gave up the ghost..so it was time to build another. Fit to withstand
the harsh saltwater environment at the Baja casa.. Hopefully, this one will last longer.
No better chef to try out this new barbie than a long-time Baja amigo. He has a license to grill.
With the help of his charming wife, we decide it's time to christian the grille with a ..what else?...a steak barbeque, of course.
The steaks were ribeye and T-bones. Lots of them.
Got to have lots of side dishes, of course...
A great time to get the neighbors together.
Time to Ring the Dinner Bell.
.
.
And in closing...as you have surely noticed...There is ALWAYS a chowhound at these events......

you have to have the best location on Baja. It is so beautiful. Every time I see a picture from you. I just love that spot more and more. And I don't
even know where is it.
Thanks for sharing.
I love your place.

I was honored to be a part of the new barbeque christening. Thank you again! That is me at seated at the far table, with the white hair, white shirt
and white napkin at my steak hole. My dog, Paco, is also vacuuming the deck. Mmmm Mmmmm!

Now I know where....
...my barrow's wheel went!!!
At least I see it's found a good new home - the chicken manure that's always been stuck to the spokes will no doubt impart a special flavor to you're
grillins'...

Wow... very nice setup and a great gathering of friends. I love that grill... If I had that I could get rid of at least three of my charcoal BBQ
grills. Hahaa. Would love to do my bbq pork back ribs on that setup!

Hey Ray!
Boy, I sure wish I had found your barrow's wheel! Instead, I had to haul this one down from King City, California, where a welding shop custom-built
it to our specs. Very easy setup..all you add is bricks, mortar, and sweat.
(Sent from the Golden Gate northend overlook, where we are currently gazing at the beautiful...FOG....)

So, which one is the chow hound?? Doesn't look like the one on the right is leaving much for the one on the left....
Great set-up and looks like it was a great party.

Pompano;
Quick question. Did you put any vent holes in it or does it get enough air from the top?

Martyman,
Sorry about being tardy with an answer, but we've been on a walkabout.
The pit is vented at the bottom with a clean-out door, but indeed gets plenty of air from the top. You don't HAVE to vent it, but with the addition of
a clean-out you get double-duty. Go for the clean-out, you'll like the easy removal of ashes.
The whole thing is easy to construct and will fit within a tight budget. The grill and windlass was a favor for a favor..no charge to me, but I'm
guessing 300 bucks would cover all materials and welding. If you don't want to do your own brick work, figure 2 days labor setting/installing time at
whatever rate your local craftsman charges.
__Of course, the best thing is, you can use this basic pit as a starting point and add on ...L-countertops, water basin, seating, cabinets, palapa
roof, flagstones, a house..a driveway.....heck, you can see where all this can take you, right?

Note: As you all know, all home projects in Baja remain 'a work in progress.'
The first version was just too low for me to comfortably flip burgers..but it's an easy fix. Just pull out the grill and add 2 brick rows. Done
deal.
.
Now...who's bringing the burro ribs?

Nothing like a BBQ, cold drinks and friends to make the FUN even MORE FUN,LOL. Good job on your new BBQ and you did yourself a favor with the turn
wheel to raise and lower the grill, just makes flare-ups something not even to worry about,LOL. Enjoy as you worked for it!!
Going to do a little BBQ at the house I leased in Las Gaviotas just outside of Rosarito this afternoon. I brought my buddies carne asada he makes at
his place in Brawley, "Hacienda" on K street just up from the local elementary school. His name is Mario Casteneda, who I have been friends with
since high school. He also makes the best burritos in town or at least tied with Johnny's another great place to eat. I have also taken the good
advise of nomads that U2U me on how to get to the Sentri and now that I have done it twice it is a piece of cake,LOL. Take care-----------------

Hi baronvonbob. Baron.. nice plane..joined the mile-highers in one a long time ago.
The metal work was all a gift done by a friend for a friend, but I am guessing the cost at a welding/fab shop at around $300 if in California, where
this was done. If done in North Dakota about 1/3 of that...
If you are handy with a welder you could make it yourself from junked material for very little. Hope that helps. Good luck..
...and Welcome to the forum.
