Best Tin Boat Fishing in August?
I am a new member to the forum although I have had a home in San Jose del Cabo for several years. I just bought a 14' boat and trailer and have a
Jeep with a winch to pull it. My brother-in-law and I will be crossing over at Tecate around August 20 and take 9 days to go down. I will leave the
car and boat there and fly back. As a newbee I could use some advice on where to stop and fish. I have the BajaCatch book but need some current
advice. We have camping gear but are not adverse to an occasional shower. Thanks for any help on fishing locations, and for any other
recommendations you may have.

Start with Bahia Asuncion. Go out with Juan at first, then with your tin boat.
You'l get a lifetime of education in a day with Juan.

If you're going to follow Udo's suggestion then here is the place to launch.
This is San Roque about 9 miles north of Asuncion (DK will correct me and say it's 11). This is where the pangueros launch. There's a dirt road on the
left that drops down to this protected cove. Once launched you will motor through that gap between rocks on the right and the center rock. No matter
when you come in this cove is almost always flat. The pangueros will always help you with your boat even without being asked. There are kelp beds to
your right with calicos.
With your setup your options in baja are almost endless since 2 people can lift that boat and drag it to the water.
Other choices:
Gonzaga Bay
All pacific lagoons (Manuela, Coyote, Bocana, Mag Bay)
San Lucas Cove
BOLA (Daggetts campground)
La Ventana campground

Fish with Juan, La Bocana, or Mag Bay. A lot cooler over there. Hey Joe, thanks for that pic, nice launch site. Looks easy!

It is. I usually row my way out through the gap and then start the motor.
Once the pangueros leave you can often get a flattie or two in the left part of the cove.
Shari's beach house can almost be seen from here.

hey Jeeper...wecome to the wacky world of Baja Nomads...I'm sure you will get lots of usefull info here...
we'll help you get oriented and show you where to launch depending on the swell direction and help you with coordinates for fish spots so bring a GPS.
Plus there are always a couple guys here who know their way around and would love to go fishing with ya if you want company.
It does help to go out once with Juan or whoever to see where to go, what lures are effective and how to fish the spots...the weather is gorgeous and

Thank you for the information on Asuncion. I am a little leery of little boats and Pacific swells but the pictures sure look manageable. I
appreciate the response and we will give Sheri and Juan a call before we get there. How bad is the road in from Vizcaino?

It is nearly all paved, but there are pot holes and sand drifts to watch out for...
See our trip page of July, 2007 where we went along the Pacific Coast of Baja, south from the El Rosario Festival... then out to Juan y Shari's
place... and spent the afternoon at San Roque (however far it is from Asuncion, if it matters*)... http://vivabaja.com/707

"The road to San Roque leaves Bahia Asuncion on Curvina Street (next to the police station) and is an easy 7.8 mile drive."
