BOLA/ La Gringa

Can anyone tell me the current status of the La Gringa camp at BOLA? The last time I was there in 2005 the camp was wired off with signs posted saying" LA GRINGA PROPIEDAD DE HOLDING REFISA". I'm planning on going down in October with my son, it's been 5 long years and I can't stand it any more!! Oh, and by the way, did they ever get the road paved to La Gringa?

As of yesterday the road was not paved the whole way, we did not drive all the way out so i cannot comment on the status.

When you're there, pop a chela, bob it at the ocean and toast Mike Humphreyville's spirit. He may have connections and bend an ear to make for superb fishing, and mild weather :-)

I was out there for a couple weeks in March. A guy living in the white house comes round and collects $5 / day. The roads paved for a bit but there's still a few miles of bad washboard. There was only one other camper out there the whole time- occasional day trippers. It's a great spot!

En route to La Gringa, there's a little sign on the road to a campo called Los Pinos. It was abandoned when I was there about 3 yrs. ago, but was a very nice camp.

It's good to see things haven’t changed there that much. In a selfish kind of way I'm almost glad that the drug problem and the slow economy have slowed things down there.
Anywhere else, a beautiful spot like BOLA would have been developed a long time ago.
Thanks for the heads up!

Where did Mike Humfreville live when he was at La Gringa? Was it the ruin in the middle of the gravel spit?

Mike, Mary Ann and the boys (Mike Jr. and Kevin) built their beach shack at La Cuevitas, a couple miles north of La Gringa... We went there in 2001 in the Viva Baja Van, with Mike and Mary Ann and their son Miguelito... The GPS waypoint for the road to Las Cuevitas is on the GPS web page at VivaBaja.com

Great story... Get the book!

Just the stairway stones remained when we all visited the site in July, 2001.

La Gringa... why it was named after an American woman, naturally!
