San Diego Co-Ed in Tijuana Jail for DUI After Car Hits Traffic Cop

by: Antonio Castelan
August 7, 2010

TIJUANA - A San Diego co-ed partying in Tijuana ends up in jail. Officials say 19-year old Jenny Garth, driving drunk, ran over one of their police officers.

Garth, a San Diego resident, allegedly drank the night away with friends at La Plaza Del Zapato, a popular teen hangout in Tijuana.

Shortly after midnight, Garth drove off in her 2003 Toyota Camry and is accused of running down an officer who was directing traffic on a busy street along Paseo De Los Heroes.

The 21-year-old officer was rushed to the hospital. Investigators would not say the extent of his injuries.

Officers brought Garth to a Mexican county jail where she was booked and given a Breathalyzer test. They also did a sobriety test, and Garth allegedly failed both.

Detectives refused to give out much information about the student but her Facebook page says she is a Fresno native who attends Willow International.

Authorities says that U.S. Consulate officials in Tijuana have visited the teen and asked the Mexican authorities to keep the case quiet.

Looks like she was walking the tight-rope and fell off----------and took some innocent guy with her---------what a tragedy & waste for all involved.

There but for the grace-of-God go many of us (including me).

She's cute, though. I see a potential romance here -- cute 19-year old coed, recovering 21-year-old cop ... ;)

Cute or otherwise, she did wrong and perhaps an innocent person will pay the price.

Jenny Garth is a character name from the TV show 90210, the person identified as Jenny Garth is likely Amber Mendiola, in either case the reporting is inaccurate, the police officer wasn't named and the only other name is a pseudonym. Bogus.

Tijuana's unofficial co-ed tourist motto:

"Come down and get your freak on"

She did all that... and more. They should give her the keys to the city.

"bogus"??? I hope you're right, Gnu-----------she (whoever that photo is) is way to beautiful to be taken out of circulation (that is probably a 'racist' statement, somehow).

You are a very suspicious person, Gnu. Perhaps YOU are the 'black-ops' guy?????

(just giving you a bad time, Gnu) ;)

If the story is credible, my question would be why would anyone planning to party the night in TJ drive their car into Mexico? Figure that part of the arrest justification would be that she didn't have Mexican insurance. Park NOB and walk. Geez. We used to grab the trolley by the train station downtown to get there.

Everyone can make up their own mind.

Just like you, I took a look at the report.

It named one person-that person is ficticious character or pseudoynm.

No other verifiable facts were made. That's not reporting that's called bogus cointelpro or propaganda.

There are no other confirmations or verifications on any other fact. The odd comment ends the story, the Consulate asked the police to keep it quiet?

So there you have the only facts we know, its an unverifiable propaganda piece with a fingerprint.

Barry that is why the story is suspicious. It doesn't mean its false, just odd and missing any verifiable facts?

Barry do your own research and make your own conclusions.

I am confused, Gnu. I just went on FACEBOOK and typed in Amber Mendiola and viola there is the same picture as is posted above avter some searching. Same thing for Jenny Garth after some searching.

Nobody gave me "any permission" to view these photos.

Not sure what you are saying here.

I doubt that bail will be granted anytime soon... but I'd certainly accept visitation rights. ;D

money always talks ... I was taught this ages ago by my brother .... and prior to that by my uncle ....

such a shame that she didnt listen to her parents or the ads - don't drink and drive. period. for she will forever have this accident on her mind .... and no amount of money can remove that ...

Maybe her accelerator stuck, it was a Toyota. That would be my defense.
