If I remember correctly, last time (month ago) I was in the city offices the minimum wage was 56 pesos per day. Not per hour.

While there may be a national minimum wage (don't know who would work for that and who, in good conscience would pay that), there are also wage guidelines based on job description and experience.

Bear in mind, there's also burden. Can range from 18-25% per hour. So, if you hire someone at $4ph, it will probably cost you close to five.

social security is after 5 days working for you. after 28 days they are permanent and then they own YOU.

I know that some pay their employees the minimum amount on the books and the rest in cash.

minimum wages policies are nothing but a free markets interferrence mechanism which actually REDUCES the number of available jobs and restricts enterprize and profits which create new employment.
they should NEVER have been enacted in the USA.

The labor laws are really lame here.

Please explain this. Isn't someone doing the job above the 'low level production tasks'? Or are you saying that these better paying jobs are not done in Mexico and the reason for this are the labor laws?

This may be the best 120 dollars ever spent for those entertaining the thought of being an employer in Mexico:

"Thank you for your opinion, Capt Oppressorr (aka Capt Cracker).

Oppressor has one R BTW...:smug:

not opinion - it is fact and part of contempory economics dictum for as long as it has been around [min wage and other forms of price control] as a liberal give away and indirect tax on the working public and private industry. Artificially setting - fixing wages or prices (price and wage controls) ALWAYS create shortages and inflated or artificial rates and values which then backfire in the long run much as a pressure cooker does when left on too long or set to a point it can't contain as a vessel.

Nixon's placing a price freeze nationally was a tremendous mistake and backfired as they all do.

if you HAD any training in basic economic and money theory you could be able to discuss it intelligently without emotion but of course you don't so you can't.

All minimum wage laws do is disallow millions from working at lower wages which are available for many jobs NOT intended to be as a career or for purposes of supporting a family. When employers are FORCED to pay outside of what the market may accept they HAVE to limit the number of jobs they can offer. And sometimes offer none.

Try and own/run your own business and you'll get a clue about these things...maybe.
or - you can always go to Cuba or N. Korea and partake in their "general 5 year plans" hahahahahaha. communism.....what a failed joke.
