SWMBO has an Hispanic student whose name is Joan and pronounces it just like the English pronunciation of the girl's name, Joan. Hard 'j', long 'o', silent 'a'.
Anyone ever hear of this before?

Joan Sebastion is a big name in Mexican music. I always thought it was prononced as Juan.
