What is the difference between the PRI and the PAN?
Honest answer for an honest question. I was reading about "Mexico Under Siege" in the LA Times today, and that question crossed my mind.
Thanks,
Ken

I doubt it's as cut & dry as that. Nice try, though.

Hi Ken, I am quite familiar with both parties, but don't want to slant my response with a personal observation, so the best thing is to present this
from wikipedia:
PRI

PAN

Interesting anecdote about politics in Baja. Way back in the day..mid 70's..I was riding through Mulege with the
then-mayor. Elections were coming up. We came upon 2 guys painting the Communist slogan (hammer & sickle) on a building wall out by the 'Y'.
I said to my amigo, "A communist party in Mulege?"
He said, "Yes, 2 of them."
"Just 2? Really..? who are they?"
"Doesn't matter, everyone just take turns being the communists. Never any more than 2."
You gotta love it.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

This is all interesting stuff. I should one day study Latin American Politics. The more you learn about different governments, the more you see how
similar each one is to the other.

I always thought that the opinion of most was that the PRI were more into corruption. You know, pay offs, graft, violent acts against those that did
not agree, or stood against them.
On the other hand, the PAN seemed to be the more ethical. Anti drug, anti corruption. More toward governing in an honest manner.
Several years ago when the PAN ousted the PRI in elections, you could actually notice that the amount of corruption seemed to decrease.

I wonder if the U.S. financed drug war will be the undoing of the PAN in the next Presidential election.
More unintended consequences?
