Fishabductor: Mexico is trying to clean up its act. It is tough to stop endemic corruption within a generation, but the last two presidents should be applauded for taking the first steps. Considering that they are facing a situation equivalent to the rise of organized crime during the US Prohibition, they are making progress. We forget that US policing was in many cases highly corrupt into the 1960's (New Orleans and some other cities still are).

Judicial reform is running concurrent with police reform, based on a constitutional amendment of 2008 to lift the veil of the secrecy in court proceedings. It will take a while before Mexicans see widespread open trials.

Corrections seems to being ignored for now, but no doubt change will come there, too, as the other branches of criminal justice catch up with modernity. I wish them luck.
