Rosarito Tourist Policeman Found Dead On The Beach

I don't think this story will see much press. Frontera is reporting that a body that washed up on the beach wednesday was that of a Rosarito Beach Tourist Policeman. No signs of trauma on the body. The cop had attended a "meeting" at a beach house in the area before his death. A citizen reported that the officer had been threatened. Not much info in the story...

ROSARITO, Baja California (PH)
Municipal Police report the person who was found drowned last Wednesday on the beach at Bajamar.

According to Mayor Hugo Torres, there is no evidence connecting this to the illegal immigrants arrested this week.

He said the agent of the Tourist Police named José Carlos López López, was off duty according to research conducted by the Attorney of Justice. He was in a meeting with several companions in a home near the beach where his body was found.

An autopsy was performed on the corpse, but apparently no traces of violence. His disappearance was reported on Wednesday, the day the meeting was held.

An unknown Citizen said the police had received threats to his life and that according to research provided by the state police, there is no indication that his death is related to the illegal aliens that were secured in early week.

Is this Bajamar south of La Salina or another beach in Rosarito? Is there a problem with illegal aliens in Rosarito?

OK, someone is found washed up on a beach near an exclusive resort residential community where he was to meet some buddies, a place 25 miles away from where he lives, with the body showing no signs of violence, and it gets posted on this site?

Must be an issue of beach pollution, right?

You are joking of course. Rosarito is a well known and documented panga launching spot for human and drug smuggling. A few months back an American was killed there who owned a panga modified for human smuggling- so it's not just Mexicans involved. The most recent news stories on human smuggling by water in the area say the smugglers are finding more places south of Popotla to launch from. Which is why the location of this body farther south is suspect.

Yes Gull, it's likely trash on the beach. When his half-naked body washed up, the authorities thought he was one of the people being smuggled north when their boat capsized off Rosarito. They posted the photo on AFN to help identify him.

This week and next are big celebrations for Rosarito- so you won't see much on this story and nothing locally for sure. Tomorrow is the half-marathon and next weekend is the bike event. Given that Rosarito is in a full media push to restore their image as a safe place to visit the facts about this dead cop will have to wait. It is still a safe place to visit if you aren't involved in the drug or human smuggling trades or are a corrupt cop (at $5K per smuggled person it's almost worth the risk... almost)

What I meant was, they are talking about securing illegal aliens in Rosarito. If they are from the area why are they illegal. Was wondering if there was other nationalities being apprehended illegal in Mexico.

Good, a half marathon would not reach Bajamar, so there is no reason to connect the dots to that event.

The Bike Race is not conducted on the beach, so they won't have to be careful looking out for the human Topes.

Something that happens more than 1/2 way to Ensenada is Ensenada's problem.

Maybe he was surfing. Would explain the reason for being half naked.

Keep up the good work on furthering the conspiracy theories. There is an aluminum hat just your size.

Least he could have done was to wash up in Rosarito's jurisdiction.

With the north current- he SHOULD have. That's another part of the puzzle. The cops thought he was the smuggler at first or they wouldn't have put the pic on the web.

This will all go away in a few days- just like the murder of the Green Angel in Ensenada last month.

Central Americans who crossed Mexico's southern border illegally and are heading for the states?

I've heard there is also a large contingent of Mexican criminals in Rosarito that were in the US illegally and deported back to Mexico after release from American jails. Is that true Wooosh?

Yup, and over 18,000 more are on the way to Baja...

(I wrote this post before I found the above link)

Hundreds if not thousands of bad-boy Mexican deportees hang out from TJ to Ensenada. They don't blend in very well anywhere. They don't have enough money to get very far and they have a difficult time getting enough paperwork to get a job- that's if there was a job to get- and they were qualified. I don't know why it is hard for them to get work papers, but it is. They speak perfect English and tend to befriend gullible or shady Americans. Some used to hang out with college aged tourists in Rosarito, get them their drugs, get drunk with them- and then rob them after the kids passed out in their hotels. Others convince the kids they got left behind by friends and ask to hitch a ride back to the USA with them (or used to before the Passport rule). That problem went away with the college-aged tourists. This is nothing new and def. no secret, the bus unloads them at the San Ysidro turnstiles every week and they are set free in their own country. There is no welcome ceremony and Mexicans treat them like the plague they are. I'll bet they do find work though... if that's what you were getting at.
