BUS TRIP - LA BOCANA to TJ (nightmare in BCS)

oh my gosh .... talk about a nightmare trip. I got a check in the mail that had to be deposited by the end of October. Being that I was supposed to start working on Monday, I decided to postpone the start date til Sept 22 (Wednesday) and head to San Diego on Sunday night by bus. Got a ride to San Ignacio, which was sweltering so I hung out for a couple hours with Juanita and her garden (total bliss with my feet in the cool spring water canal running thru). At 8 PM, got on bus. About 2 hours into the 12 hour bus ride, some kids starting feeling bus sick. The rear bathroom malfunctioned and the smell was overwhelming. The air conditioning was FREEZING cold. The bus was packed to the brim, no possibility of sleeping. Altho, I must say, I was in the middle of the bus and it was not bumpy at all. Quite smooth and this is where I will sit from now on.

Arrived in TJ main terminal. Got on another bus to the border. Probably one of the highlights of the trip since you bypass all the people in line. There is a special lane just for bus riders and then you walk out of the bldg. Sweet. My sister was 30 min late picking me up. Not so sweet.

After eating and visiting family and friends Sunday day and banking and shopping all day Monday day, I went to grayhound in downtown San Diego and caught a bus to the main terminal in TJ (which goes via the TJ int'l airport). This was so easy. Arrived in TJ, bought the ticket to return to la Bocana. Saw that grayhound will take you to any destination in the States out of TJ. I used the internet for an hour while I waited. The return bus trip was uneventful - I slept while freezing. I sat in the front seat and panicked every time I looked forward out of the bus, so I stopped looking.

Overall grade = NIGHTMARE. :no::no:

Now I am home in paradise and :lol::bounce::yes: life is good !! Grade has been upgraded to a A+.

Sounds about par for the course. Rode a bus from Camp Le Juene in North Carolina, to Santa Ana,Ca. in 1980. If we ever meet, we can trade bus stories!:O Glad you are safe at home!:bounce: Would you happen to know a gringo named Derek?,He just spent a couple weeks down there in La Bocana, and does a few times a year. Good guy and a good friend! If he is around, tell him hello for me!

BajaBass - Derek is on here as yellowkllr - not sure about that spelling !! Look up the thread on Black Sea Bass - Mero. We all have been going round and round the bush on that issue.

He was indeed here in Bocana, he is indeed one of the nicest most generous people I have ever met, his wife is drop dead gorgeous and nice to boot !! And while I spent the 30 hours last weekend in San Diego - his was one house I went to while they were working, to drop off stuff for them to bring us when they come down October 9.

So, when are you coming to visit ?????? Check out pics amigo -

and don't forget to bring me a bike for the bike club or a surfboard for the surfclub and this past weekend I started buying skateboards. Less expensive than mountain bikes. Few, if any, replacement parts. Me gusta la idea :bounce:

I am weeks away from leaving OC for good Blanca! My wife is already working in La Paz for 3 months now. I will spend the next few years learning both coasts. Shari and you are both on the must visit ASAP list!
Yes, Derek and his wife are good people for sure!
