Choppers have been flying doing water drops the last 2 days (I can hear one in the distance right now) According to the folks at the condor station
(you can see ventado blanco and the observatroy from their porch) its seems to be less intense than the previous days.
Rather annoying if its true the military were burning mota and thats how it started! We had the same thing happen on the periphery of our property a
month ago. I heard high powered rifle shots about one to two km east of us towards cienega de soto, I reported it by radio to our friends at the
condor station and they came down for a visit. Later in the day we saw a small plume of smoke so because of the dry conditions we called the
forestales who came down right away. We kept an eye on it for a few hours (its a 3 hour hike to get up there) and it dyed out. Later we found out it
was a miltary squad chasing a few small time growers and burning their paltry crop. The forestales said they never let them know they are going to do
this, seems they are a bit gung ho on the drug war, putting properties at risk in high fire danger areas. Now its happened again in the park! I'm sure
some crap is going to hit the fan with this one though, why not just carry the crop to a safe burn area?? Its not like the grow areas in this region
are large, the grow season is short and there scant water.

O.K. perfectionist, how about commenting on the event
It is not the first time I have erred and won't be the last.
I took the time to include this article because I realize that there are people interested in Baja.

You can EDIT to correct mis-spellings... I do it all the time because I make typos, too... as I am not 'perfect', but thought you would want
accuracy... no worries okay?

Here's a Google translation of the article...for what it's worth:
For three days, a forest fire in a canyon northeast of San Pedro Martir, threatens the forest, with the risk rising to more wooded areas.
The fire has so far affected 200 hectares, according to the Secretary of Environmental Protection Socrates Bastidas.
The park, just in June, passed from administration to Environmental Protection Agricultural Development, faces one of its greatest dangers because the
fire is located in an area of difficult access.
The fire started near San Felipe on Monday in an area close to the Sierra and initially affected but the dry brush and winds were to be strengthened.
It is believed that the fire was caused by a military incursion and destruction of infringing goods that this is a place of difficult access.
Was attempted from the first moment their control but is an inaccessible and turbulence generated in the guns could be prevented to enter the
helicopter.
This has forced you to look a bit risky place close to land where the brigades come on foot, walking for more than two hours.
So far estimates are affected about 200 hectares and crews are in the area of Baja California, Chihuahua and has requested support from the army.
The most serious is that this fire, which has already affected pine, out of control and may cause a greater impact in the area.
National Park of San Pedro Martir is one of the most valuable ecosystems in the world for its antiquity and healthy trees.

I hope the Bomberos ('Forest-ales') get control of the fire. I agree with AstroBaja that carrying the crop to a controlled burn area would have been
much more practical. I wonder how many Narcos got shot in the gun battle you heard on your property??

He once mentioned traveling along a dirt road in the Sierra San Pedro region (no photos), and hiking in the SSPM park, but no photos to verify.
