Volaris Airlines Launches Cuernavaca-Tijuana Service

October 1, 2010

Mexican low-cost airline Volaris Airlines has begun daily service on a new domestic route between Cuernavaca in Morelos state and Tijuana in Baja California.

Volaris Airlines says the new route demonstrates its continuing commitment to expand to become one of the biggest airlines in Mexico, a job that my be somewhat easier now that Mexicana has ceased operations.

Tijuana, the biggest city in Baja California, is one of Volaris’ four focus cities and the airline says it is one of the most important hubs in Mexico because of its proximity to Mexico’s U.S. frontier (with San Diego just a few miles away on the other side of the border) and its easy access to popular tourist cities in northern Mexico. One such city is Ensenada, which is known for its unique wineries, and another is Rosarito, a favorite beach destination which also offers a rich variety of cuisines.

Volaris serves many domestic destinations from Tijuana, and also flies from the big Baja California city to Oakland in California.

Mexican low-cost carrier operates an all-Airbus A320-family fleet of A319s and A320s. The fleet mainly consists of A319s because of the type's excellent perfromance from high-altitude airports such as Toluca, where Volaris is based, and Mexico City

According to Volaris, Cuernavaca is also a destination much favored by tourists because of its year-round spring-like climate (averaging 21.5 degrees Centigrade), which Volaris says is one of the most beneficial climates in the New World. Cuernavaca also offers museums, ancient ruins, plenty of nightlife, theaters and also has a bustling commercial center.

Volaris’ schedule on the Tijuana-Cuernavaca route sees its daily flight leaving Tijuana’s General Abeland L Rodriguez International Airport (TIJ) at 3:25 p.m. and arriving at Cuernavaca’s General Mariano Matamoros Airport (CVJ) at 8:45 p.m. local time. In the other direction, the airline’s flight departs CVJ at 9:15 p.m. and arrives at TIJ at 10:50 p.m. local time.
