Trip Report Guerro Negro so far
Easiest border crossing ever, bar none, TJ, right hand lane, 15-20 minutes max. Have 10 yr auto permit so that helped.
Estero Beach nearly empty, Mario back at restaurant. Hot tub for RV park not working, but still a wonderful place to stay.
10 hour drive Ensenada to Guerro Negro, some construction.
Life is good in the sloow lane.

I'm thinking that with all the army checkpoints in place, that booth at the state border is nothing more than a buck for bug spray these days. Often
thought about it. On the mainland, I've crossed various state lines from Sonora to Quintana Roo, and have never encountered an immigration checkpoint.

There is/ was a seperate INM oficer at the state border... just like at other immigration (not military) checkpoints when you leave the 'border zone'.
He would walk up to look at our FM-Ts then the bug guy would walk up for his two bucks (and a beer once).
Not normally a state border thing, unless it is a border state's south line, as in this case.
Years ago, the INM checkpoint was just south of Maneadero.
This kind of gives some validity that the entire state of Baja (Norte) is in the border zone now... (as some have reported)?

what about bug spray? How does that work? Doing a Cabo run next month and want to know what to expect? This is news to me- thanks

We will be in La Bocana/Asuncion in January. Now in Loreto for a day and then down to La Ribera. Life is good in the slooow lane.
Estero Beach RV park is empty, we were the only rig there. They continue to bump along, they are in it for the long haul. Still full service at the
restaurant but the hot tub at the RV park was not working, big deal, I love this place! Mario at restaurant, stuffed shrimp to die for!!
Road to Loreto is good, only some construction, not bad at all.
We arrrived at Guerro Negro after dark, bad, my bad, my very bad, DO NOT DO THIS!! Cows on road! Horses are even more unpredictable and spooky.
We were not asked for the papers, which a kid at the border in TJ actually gladly filled out for me as I spoke quietly and with out Spanish. Nice kids
at the border. Cursory glance at the motor home by the nice young border gal who we apologized to for having a dirty motor home. She smiled and
responded in perfect English, "don't worry, you are on vacation".
A tour bus driver in Ensenada pulled up beside us, biggest smile and V sign I have ever had thrown at me, held up a few US dollars, I held up pesos
and we both laughed and air fist bumped!! It's been a long dry spell in Baja and people seem particularly friendly this trip. Come to Baja and spend
money.
The Guerro Negro agricultural spray is no bid deal, now drive over a mist of insecticide, not like they used to do, where a guy came by and sprayed at
the tires. 10 pesos and on you go.
Kids at military checkpoints young and curious, I lose all Spanish with them and say I am on vacation and going to La Paz in answer to all questions.
Nice kids, they seem to like the chocolate that Diane gives them, the chocolates are from England, given to us by a friend from there, and not so
good, so easy to part with. Is there really such a thing as chocolate that is not dark chocolate? This English stuff is milk chocolate, they must have
something against the Dutch, who do know how to make chocolate.
I digress, it is a wonderful time to be in Baja, you will have it to yourself!!
Tomorrow we pass through Ciudad Constitution and I will give a full report.

Last year: Just south of the Eagle Monument, where the traffic circle around it comes back together is/was an awning over the road. An immigration
officer walks up and asks to see your tourist card (fm-t then), then walks away as a guy wearing a gas mask and white overalls walks up and asks for
some money... 2 dollars then, for the spray service... you proceed and drive over a pipe with some mist jets pointed up spraying whatever under your
car.

Ten pesos it is.
Sitting in Cafe Sagitario in Loreto, just had some of the best Eggs Benedict that I have ever had. Great place for your typical American food,
hamburgers, waffles etc. Very good RV park on site. Good WiFi. Colonia Centro, Loreto.

The next stop was at the Eagle Monument (28º Parallel of latitude/ state border) where a kilometer south is check of your FM-T papers a drive-over
insect spray of the bottom of your vehicle, for 20 pesos. Northbound, we were waved through with no look at our FM-Ts. The time changes to Mountain
Time and we lose an hour. 2 miles south is the entrance road to Guerrero Negro and Highway One curves to the southeast.

Guess I need to change my vote. Just because you say it does not make it so! It has been 10 pesos for as long as I can remember (its more if you are
hauling a trailer). then it is 20. You either got taken or didn't understand and just flipped the money out!
