Great solar newbie site

For those of you trying to get up to speed on solar power try this site here. They have great tutorials and ideas for the DIY'er. Like these cheap and simple junction/combiner boxes, fused or not.

Good site, Santiago..

Here's another good one with a very helpful forum, that I have been using for a few years now.

http://www.solar-electric.com/

..installed my first Baja solar system in 1975.

Anyone remember those old Acorn panels? 55 watts ..at best!

Santiago
the site you ref:
http://www.freesunpower.com/
is a good site
lots of good info

i do disagree with the wire calculator
one of the BIGGEST problems in the summer
is heat and the wire resistance
from the solar panels to the controller
you need BIGGER wire to handle the resistance

on another note...
i watered my batteries today
3 gallons distilled water
about as much as when it was hot in the summer

if you use the NEC tables there is a grid value for temperature applicable to wire sizing.

you have to consider all variables or you'll blow it.
or go with micro inverters and forget DC altogether.
you'll need a back up batt sys for nights tho. since micro inverter systems are for grid tie mainly.
