What's the season for tuna and yellowtail at Punta Abreojos?
How's the fishing at Abreojos? What can we expect in late Novermber, early December??

Well, I think it is exactly the same as for us in La Bocana, since it is only 10 miles south of us ..... and this year there is NO fishing to speak
of. La nina is with us and her cold water took the fish elsewhere.
Probably someone from Abreojos can confirm or correct me if I am wrong.

Probably no Tuna this year the water never warmed up enough. There might be some yellowtail around but not many.
We were there 3 weeks ago and the water was 61F last yera at the same time it was 74-78 fishing was no good.
We drove north and fished out of Asuncion and caught 8 Yellowtail.

BajaDanD does that mean that the pacific current hasn't gone far enough south yet or it just isn't going to happen because the water never really
warmed up?

Regarding Tuna:
It means that the El Nino warm water from the south never amounted to much this year.

I would say never warmed up. Ccold water temps all summer along California/Baja coast.
61 in Abreojos at the end of Oct. Where's the warm water gonna come from

Just give it time, global warming will be here any time now and the tuna will be jumping in the boat to get out of the hot water

Several fishermen in Bahia Asuncion have told us that this is a more typical fishing year with no El Niņo---yellowtail are there now but later than
the last couple of years, and the tuna may not show up at all. They would all like to see more yellowtail and tuna.

this week the water was up to 65 and Asuncion is now thick with yellowtail..all boats this week have been haulin em in like crazy...triple hook ups
and limits all round with our guys today...

DianaT - shari - Juan - Jim - Laurie - and other Asuncion denizens, what is the most-used fishing method for catching
yellowtail in your area?
Do you live-line with a swimming bait such as mackerel or bigeye?
Circle hooks?
How fierce is the current?..and how deep are the fish?
Use 3, 4, 6, or even 8 ounce sliding egg sinkers?
Can the tails be caught by trolling a lure within 30 feet of the surface at times?
Do any fishermen still jig for them? Yo-yos, etc.
Is dynamite available in Asuncion?
Does anyone speak Norwegian in Asuncion?
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

of course we speak Norwegian here...doesnt everyone???
fishing conditions change...today they were yoyoing with irons...no trolling...but d of nan&d did get a yt at the island on the troll a few days
ago.... last season we mostly trolled exraps...of course current depends on the moon...we live in harmony with the sardines...any other questions
smarty pants???

the el nino is a central pacific event. maybe the water will get to 75 in SD during the summer, el or la nino. this year it is now 63, the warmest of
the summer pretty much. BTW, el nino was over in the spring so we should be getting back to normal as winter proceeds and HOPEFULLY next summer is
"normal" cuz this summer SUCKED!!!

Speaking Norwegian or not, there is only one real way to catch yellowtail in Bahia Asuncion. Reach in, grab it and then decide if you want to keep
it.

This by no means was a typical year the water is usually a lot warmer in the summer along the west coast El Nino or not. Calif coast and Baja coast
hardly had a summer at all this year. Some of the coldest water temps during the summer on record. Some of the worst fishing too. Nothing typical
about that. All of the fisherman I talked to in La Bocana and Asuncion said it has been one of the worst fishing seasons they could remember.

Yes, this year has not been the best. And we all joke about the lack of summer this year. And for many, the lack of summer has not been a bad thing.
But as many of the old timers have told us, the yellowtail usually show up as they have now done, but most often just not as early as they showed up
the last couple of years in such great numbers. They describe the last couple of years as super abundant and great fishing for both yellowtail and
tuna---the best in many many years. They all still hope the tuna will show up this year, but it does not always happen. None of the old timers with
whom we have talked describe it as the worst -- they describe it as more typical---maybe just a different choice of words and perceptions.
Some of the fishermen enjoyed the later arrival---more time for other businesses and relaxation, others did not. The ones who were hurt the most with
the later arrival are the very few who are involved in the fishing tourist industry.

My opinion, this year having fished 4 times in different parts of Baja each trip and many times offshore San Diego / Coronados, there is nothing
really typical this year when it comes to fishing. It is definitely off !!!
