Volaris Airline and fishing reels with line

On our recent trip to La Paz from Tijuana, Volaris told us prior to departure that we could carry on board our reels with line. After we had checked our bags and we went to the security checkpoint they refused to let us pass through security. I had to go back and check the reels. This cost $73.

I am filing a complaint with Volaris but have no expectations.

I flew Volaris TJ to Lapaz a while back. I didn't check a bag but was turned back at security because I had a fishing reel in my bag. I still had plenty of time to go back and check my carry on bag. I wasn't charged anything as this was my only checked bag.
