Santo Remedio
I was in G negro and rather than stop at my usual Malarrimo
for food I wanted to try Santo Remedio. Well the place looked nice and
impressive from the outside. It even had onsite parking.
When I entered the inside was also tastefully appointed and
the walls displayed some nice art work. There was what seemed to be an adjacent room with a bar for larger functions.
The food however was a disapointment. I had the seven seas soup. My waiter forwarned me that some of the "seas"
may not be present. Not to worry I thought. After all this is
a seaside town and everything else will be wonderfully fresh and flavorful....not. The overwhelming flavour of the
soup was the seasonings. No corn tortillas. A bland serving
of buttered toasted bread was subsituted. I must have ordered the wrong thing. My friends order also did not impress. Therewas every indication of a
high end place
but the food made me long for Malarrimo...until I saw the sign
at the market posted by the Malarrimo that said they were looking for a cook.
Now I just wonder. I alway give a new place 3 tries even if
my taste buds were insulted the first time. Sometimes you just pick the wrong dish. Anyone else eat here recently?

3 strikes? sheesh, you are an exceptional human being..... there's always another place that can make your day, or make you sick, just down the road.
why give the same place 2 more opportunities?

That is a shame----when it first opened, it was good---but a lot has changed.
Thanks, we have not tried it in a while and probably won't.

Always believed that despite having a beautiful place, they were just a little too off the beaten path for most tourist just passing through. That's
probably why the original owner failed. That and the fact that GN is definitely a blue collar town. While I have often observed locals at Malarrimo,
they do benefit from a long standing reputation with the tourist crowd. But, I have to admit that I am really equivocal about Malarrimo over the
years. Food has been erratic, and I always feel like I'm being rushed, whether the place is empty or busy.

yes, dianne...as I informed you, the owner, who was a very dear friend of ours is no longer of this world...do you really think I made that up?
He was a wonderful man...a perfectionist which is why the food used to be lovey and that was his home as well. His staff ended up with the restaurant.
I used to live in GN and the very best food consistantly IMHO is Don Gus...a very classy place with excellent service... followed by Las Cazuelas.

depends what you want to eat David...for a nice sit down dinner of seafood or meat, Don Gus would be my first choice, Las Cazuelas 2nd.

Not really unless you subscribe to once bitten twice shy.
I have been to many restaurants where the dish that I ordered was not up to par, but another was outstanding.
I have even been to an Italian restaurant that had very good
Itallian food , but also served a killer hamburger, presumabbly on the menu for pesky children. I have had waiters after giving them my selection nod
in disagreement
and suggest something that I did not consider instead. Many times thay were right. Sometimes the "special today Fresh
Fill in the blank" is not so fresh.
All in all the place looked like it was at one time a very upscale and nice place that could hold its own in any city.
Unfortunately what I had sampled was very disapointing.
Perhaps I should have had the Mano De Leon Scallops.
They were quite good at a restaurant that Shari suggested
a couple of years ago.

Ah, but I ask what would be YOUR top 2-3. Since you eat sea food 90% of the time (I bet)... Maybe you have a favorite asada place or something
different, if not just traditional Mexican food? Maybe a place that has both sea food and mexican food or steaks?

i just dont understand the "or so we were told" comment....at all...seemed very cold.
it's hard to "chill" when you brought back the horrific memories of how this wonderful man died. Keno was one of the most gentle, caring, generous men
I have ever met and his family are like family to us...this wound still hurts like hell.

sorry to hear that malarrimo is looking for a new chef - we ONLY order their filet mignon and we have never been disappointed yet.
