My wife is from Sinaloa, Mexico. I got her American residency 6 years ago, does her Mexican birth help me? |
Only in the kitchen.

What does the process for Mexican citizenship involve?
|
Just curious....if you are thinking of going through the process, why would you? Through your wife you can already buy land.
If you're in the FM process, you'll qualify for Inmigrado status after ten years, perhaps less with some recent changes.
I mean.....going for citizenship is fine. I'm just wondering why.

Contemplated acquiring Mexican citizenship at one time. Dual? I'll hang on to my US citizenship, my birthright. Thanks to all those guys at Pearl
Harbor, Iwo Jima, Normandy, Vietnam, Iraq, Afganistan and other places.

Get ahold of Shari. She recently went through the process.
While you're waiting, familiarize yourself with this song.

so, I was not told that I have to know the anthem, but it makes sense to know it anyways, I was told that I would get asked 5 of the 100 history
questions and I can only miss one (ouch !!).
As far as I understand, one can keep both nationalities BUT when in Mexico, one is a Mexican ie can not request the American embassy/consulate to
intervene in any way ....
I also know that with an FM2, the time required to request Mexican citizenship takes 5 years for an American. And 2 years for a latin American.
The only reason I will do it is:
1. to NOT have to do immigration paperwork every year.
2. Be able to put property in our names without fideicomisos.
3. I love this country, chose it to live in, and still love my country of birth (USA) as well as where my heart is (Brazil).

I don't think you have to know the whole song. It's really long.
Ask Shari.

They won't do anything for you anyway unless you have a big business.

When you reach Inmigrado status, the paperwork is over.
