white seabass
My dad reported from fishing in San Quintin on Saturday that the white sebass are wide open.. Him and his friends fished from 2 boats. They caught
bait in the bay and ran south past cielito lindo. They caught 27 white seabass smallest one was 18 lbs biggest was around 34lbs..They used all the
live bait and were still catching them on big crocodiles and swim baits. They left the fish still bitting. They stayed at the old mill and fished
with pedro's pangas...Paul

Great report!! Just one thing though---I did not read the word "release" in there. If all those fish were kept I can only shake my head and wonder

"They left the fish still biting" is what Paul wrote. That sounds like they left the fish in the water, to me??? Paul?

That just means
they left while the fish could still be caught in mass numbers.
As far as catch and release, let's see if there is an answer to that one.

Can you say "OVER-KILL"
If my calculations are right if ALL the fish just weighed 18 lbs. then that would be "486 lbs." of sea bass. So your dad and friends caught over
"486 lbs. of sea bass!!! That is just ridiculous!!! What are they going to do with all of that fish?? Do they own of fish market?? If they threw
some back then accept my apologies for jumping to conclusions. However no mention of "catch and release". Sure glad that they ran out of
bait!!...Baja Red

relax red, paul doesnt go out there just to kill a bunch of fish to bring home as he is catch and release. i,m sure that most of his familly is the
same way. we report alot about what we catch without mentioning that we release most, but it is a fact that we are sportsman and we love to catch and
release. a couple of fish for the bar-b-que is all we need. tight lines!

Here is some additional info on the trip report. They kept all 27 fish! They could of kept catching them if they wanted but decided they had enough.
Now I'll do my math. There were 2 boats with 7 anglers and 27 fish caught. This is an average of 3.85 fish per angler. A couple fish to each of the
captains and your fish ratio drops to a 3.28 average per angler. I don't think this is overkill at all.
Myself and most of my friends are all into catch and release. We release many fish each and every year all species,small ones , big ones and
especially billfish...My dad hasn't kept a bill fish in over 20 years and I havent kept on in 7 years. The last one we kept came up dead 7 years ago..
OK back to the facts.. So they bring home a 3.28 fish average. Some for them and some for friends and family. Is that overkill!!! Is it OVERKILL
that I go out on a 1 day trip out of San Diego and get a 5 fish mexican limit on albacore that average 25 lbs each...Maybe some of you think so but I
love to eat fish all year long and my friends do too...

Over-kill corrected
tunaeater..in your first post there was no mention of how many people caught 27 fish. I have been there and we had two boats with "2" people in each
boat. So 3.28 fish per person does not sound so "over the limit". Please accept my apology for jumping to conclusions. (that is still "54+ lbs. of
fish per person"...when is the fish fry??)  By the way how is the "Old

Reminds me of a time I cought 5 WSB in a day, the biggest was 3.5 feet I only kept the smallest at 25" (Yea, I know it is 'undersize' but it was
plenty for the 3 campers). Same trip I probably caught and released an additional 10 WSB and at least 10 Halibut.
Hopefully they will still be biting in a month when I return to the same spot.
