Unfortunately my real baja Christmas tree is now a thing of the past....Some of my most memorable baja times were spent shopping for Christmas trees
with my baja dad Herman. I loved those days.
Then there was the year that we built our "tree" out of San Quintin tumble weeds. What a mess that made in the back of our truck.

I thought Blacks were Baptists first and foremost, then Kwanzians for a week of debauchery and unfettered friendship.
You know....like the Creoles in New Orleans who let their hair [and everything else] down for a week of Mardi Gras, then give it up for lent.
So many cultural rompecabezas to unravel and so little time.

What is this Kwanzaa ordeal anyway? Something revered through time that is above comment?
No way. It's as made up as most names Blacks give their kids these days. I'm allowed to speak to it in any manner I see fit and, in my opinion,
Kwanzaa has about as much legitimacy as Festivus which very few have a problem laughing about.
I won't be intimidated to silence by anyone carrying on a newborn tradition of a Christmas Party co-opted as a cultural trademark.
The Blacks can celebrate their roots to any degree they desire, but I'll be damned if I'm going to bow my head in reverence and silence myself to
their activities within the culture we share....or, are supposed to.

I think Kwanzaa was invented by some city college teacher in Long Beach (without looking)... You can check with wikipedia if it that important.

Kwanzaa was indisputably rooted in the Black separatist movement of the day. It was more about Black pride, rather than about religious connotation.
If anything, the turmoil of those times spawned an actual religious shift, with many of what were previously overwhelmingly Baptist blacks, embracing
Islam. That is a religion.
I would consider Kwanzaa to be about as religious as Mardi Gras.
