Peninsula Road Report 1/2/10

I drove the length of the peninsula starting 12/21 for Christmas and New Years and returned yesterday 1/2. The way down it rained from Orange County, CA to 30 miles North of Guerrero Negro. The rain made that portion of the road miserable. The rest of the drive went well. The road for the most part was in good condition with only a few sections of construction:

The road South of Ensenada shortly above Santo Tomas is under construction for around 3 miles or so. The whole thing is pitted with large pot holes, and the going is slow. On the way down, it was night and dumping rain when I drove through, and it was very slow going. On the way North, I came through in the daylight, and dry conditions, and it was not nearly as bad.

The bridge at El Rosario is open. There were no wash-outs anywhere due to recent rain.

The road between Cabo and Todos Santos has 20 miles or so of construction and it is best to drive through with caution. Some of the lane closures were not well marked.

There were a couple bridge projects at various places on the SOC side, but they were well signed and did not cause any delay.

For the military checkpoints, I had no issues. Going South, we were waved through each one, and coming North they only checked the cab very quickly, (I have a camper shell that was packed completely full with camping/fishing/surfing gear) and had us on our way. Only twice did the open the back, and within 20 seconds decided it wasn't worth his time. They were all polite.

If you have any questions let me know, I'm sure I left something out!
