Green-tailed Towhee
You might hear this bird scratching around under thick brush with a call something like a cat's mew. Just sit and watch for a while when you hear a
noise and it may pop out of the bush for a moment.

Towhees are secretive little guys. We have rufous sided in my yard up here in NorCal,
and I rarely see them. The browns are more visible. Thanks for the great pics. Keep 'em coming.

I've probably seen less than 10 green ones in my entire life. So when I spot one it's a treat.

One thing nice about digital, I can practice 'til I get a blister one my finger
If this damn wind ever settles down I'm going out and practice a little nature watching. Something I have let go by the way side over the years here.

Out of the blue. 9 hours after what was supposed to be a routine 1 hour surgery the doctor came out and said "shes stable". I said what do you mean
"shes stable"? "We found cancer" he says and walks away from me, he was totally beat. I asked whats going on here, do I need a miracle or
something? He says "I don't believe in miracles but you need one. My wife was given a 5% chance of living 6 months.
That was almost exactly 6 years ago. We pulled all the plugs and started doing all the things we were "waiting" to do. We took time to look and see
and photograph nature all over the world. I had always been a hunter. Nothing was safe around me. If it moved somehow I justified a reason and way
to catch and/or kill it.
Now, my wife and I walk and look and feed the birds. I'll catch a rattlesnake or something like that and feel so rewarded as she checks it out with
curiousity and admiration before I let it go instead of killing it. We put on slide shows of wildlife that we photo and our friends respond in such a
positive way. Life is good, every second of it!

You certainly have a sharp eye and I pray that you & your wife get to play the next 6 years as though it is the last 6 months again. I'm not sure
that came out right but I hope you get my best wishes anyway.

We have a couple in our yard in Los Barriles. Toss a bit of bird seed under a bush where you have a good view and wait. They rarely fly, they hop.
Also, ours tend to be early morning feeders, just after dawn for an hour or sol
