Shell Island
Where is Shell Island? I've searched the forum and find several references to it but not where it is located.
When we drive back to the states from La Paz this summer, we are going to take a week or 2 to explore the peninsula as a vacation.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry you have missed the numerous maps, directions, satellite images of it I have posted over the years!
Quite simply, it is the barrier island between Laguna Percebu and Bahia Santa Maria (~19-25 miles south of San Felipe). An access road is at Km. 26...

Some recent trip web pages:
http://vivabaja.com/1009/
http://vivabaja.com/7409/
http://vivabaja.com/508/

Some gringos that have moved into the area in recent years call it 'Shell Beach'... but there already is a Shell Beach in Baja (Punta Chivato) and it
is not an island like this one becomes during the highest lunar tides.
MAPS:

here's one of mine from 1978 when I first found the way to drive onto the island (previously I would park at the north end of Bahia Santa Maria and
walk across the lagoon entrance onto the island):

The new road to Puertecitos was built in 1982+...

In 6 years pavement had not gotten much past Punta Estrella...

A stop in Mulege is a MUST! I would consider staying at the Cuesta Real along the river and walking distance to Julgle Jims for happy hour. Also,
walking distance in to town for a great meal at El
Candil (owned by Scotty) A great place to eat.

San Felipe was marvelous tonight.
Sat in the front with a small fire listening to:
Gino Vanelli, Ronnie Laws, Chicago, Los Lonely Boys and Boz Skaggs
Fried some pork chops on the grill oh and let us not forget a few Tecates.
Back to Phoenix tomorrow
